How many miles do you get on a full tank?

Hi guys,
I know we all drive differently and our driving styles change with our moods, however I was wondering on average how many miles you get from a full tank down to say 30 miles left on your fuel warner?
I drive a 4.4 and most of the time drive with a "heavy foot", I guess I get between 400 and 430 miles on highway driving at an average speed of 80-90mph.
We can all look at the BMW mpg values but I'm looking for tank figures - cant seem to find anything on the web.

I'm particularly interested in diesel stats as my X5 is up for replacement in April and need to look around.

Thanks

I get about 400 from my 4.6is

I've had 510 miles on my 3.0 with mostly highway driving. Much less around the city.

x5pilot 01-19-2009 10:55 AM

butundo, Is that a diesel or petrol (gas) engine?

:iagree: ...my best is 508 with "21" left, as I pulled in for gas.
Not diesel, and it's a puny 3.0, but 5 speed manual so I endure
very high highway cruise speed RPMS.
I know this pic is repost...just fyi.
BR,mD

Edit...I knew I had done way better than that so I dug up the pic of our
Best Ever mpg from a trip last June: the Mtns to NJ to see the kids.
No A/C on most of the way, (it was quite cloudy & cool), never got over
80, etc. NEway, 568 on a fookin tank!

Thanks...we were sort of trying hard, for once...usually we haul azz
and do 80-85 on that run from NC to NJ, but that trip the VA Nazis
were out in full force, we didn't have to "be there" for dinner, the
a/c was unnecessary, etc. The hard part is that our revs at 75/80
are serious azz rpms due to the lack of OD in our old 5 speed manual
trans...but, I was proud and surprised, as that mark eclipsed our
old "best" by 60 miles.

Sonic0075 01-19-2009 01:20 PM

If I could keep my fat right foot out of it, I might get better than the 340 miles per tank I'm getting now :D

I only do slightly better than half of that :tsk: I'm probably in the low 300s. I consistantly get 12.9 per gallon. My drive is mostly city and rush hour highway with a heavy foot.

The E70 weighs more and uses more gas.

ctbmw1 01-19-2009 02:36 PM

15.4 MPG in the E53, 16.4 in the M both HEAVY foot. My E90 M got a little over 4 MPG during track days :-)

Gas. That was a trip from PGH to Baltimore and back. Filled up here and did the round trip on a tank! We also did some driving around in baltimore. I am easy on the gas, 80mph tops on the highway. I still had some miles left when we got back, but it wasn't much.

RDM3 01-19-2009 11:32 PM

When it was warmer I would get about 400 miles, once it got cold and the oxygenated gas started showing up it is about 330 or so.

Thats for a 2000 4.4l and mostlt backroad type driving.

X5Flyboy 01-19-2009 11:39 PM

Max 528 miles with a 22.2gal fillup - but mostly 20mpg hwy & 15-17 around town (no rush hour traffic)

realchef 01-19-2009 11:46 PM

On a highway jaunt, clear 400 easy. S.Fe to Denver on one tank. Around town ummm not so much.

Weasel 01-20-2009 12:05 AM

I drive primarily in city with a really heavy foot... Those of us like me should have our own thread for who gets the worst mileage

I average 10.5 to 11.5 mpg, (with the worst possible city driving... stop sign to stop sigh) so the tank won't get me that far!

Like I said, all city with a realy heavy foot, while not even thinking about mileage to get that average!

Try the mountains. I didn't even get 300 miles out of the E53's tank, and that was 120 miles of pure highway followed by 2 weeks of rocketing around the ski resort!

My right foot gets fatter as soon as I cross from VA into NC :tsk: I learned that my E90 will break 35mpg if you go 60 instead of 90! (but 29 at 90 isn't anything to bitch about)

Dannyell 01-20-2009 01:56 AM

It has become a habit for me to go over 400 miles due mostly to highway driving...trying to achieve that keeps me at and under the speed limit...but there are nights when the highways are all empty especially I271...so yeah thats the exception :D

asot 01-20-2009 04:37 AM

I get about 1000Km (625 miles) with a SUPER full tank of DIESEL!!! (most of them - 90% - driven on Highways, with 120-140Km/hr)

PCS X5 01-21-2009 05:49 PM

I'm averaging about 18mpg so I typically get 400+ miles out of a tank. Most of the driving is around town but with minimal traffic. On highway road trips at around 80mph, it'll go about 450-460 on a tank. My best tank was 556 mi from Limon, CO to Evanston, WY (I70-I25-I80). I filled up with 23.81 gal. BTW, I'm driving a 2005 4.4i.

cavx5 01-21-2009 10:50 PM

i have a 2005 with 4.4 mostly city driving and i get about 11 mpg..on highway cruise about 80 computer shows 18-20 mpg..i dont know where the rest of the posts getting 400-500 miles with a 4.4 on a tank full unless something is wrong with my car..if i get on it in city drving have seen 10.4 mpg

If you're getting 18 mpg on the highway, that should be well over 400 miles per tank with the 24 gallon tank.

Haha, just an access road. I know that my E90 barely breaks 15 when I'm on a "mental health drive" up US-25 or something like that, oh jesus, a 4.8i would kill me. but... soo... much... fun...

NYC Driving doesn't count as driving. That crap you measure in Gallons/Hour you spend idling. When I go to NYC, the only driving I do is to the Darien MetroNorth station, and then somehow, I always manage to walk from GC to soho when its 140º outside.

:wow: that's the same region I got my best mileage - did a short leg from Laramie, WY to Limon, CO (22.6mpg) and then went from there to Kansas City, MO for my best tankful ever 22.7mpg

as far as those complaining about the mountains, I typically get 18-20mpg over the Rockies, depending upon which route I take from Idaho Falls, ID to Rock Springs, WY

Vasara 01-22-2009 05:15 AM

HI!

I have e53 X5 -04 3.0d and the best result i have gotten from one tank of gas is 1200km (750miles). That time I was driving only on small higways at the avragespeed of 80 - 90 km/h ( 53 mph) I had 235/65 17" friction tyres.

Usually I get about 800 to 900 km (530 miles) with mixed driving in suburban area.

HAMAR 01-22-2009 05:45 AM

500 km. on my '05 4.4
18.5 L/100 km.
I miss my diesel Mercedes :(

03MstyleX5 01-22-2009 08:15 AM

i always figured i had some kind of fuel problem. one night i got 125 miles on a full tank???? that was 140mph 100 miles of the way but still. when normal dirving the computer says 14 mpg but i still feel i can watch the needle drop. id say average driving no more then 250miles a tank

Weasel 01-22-2009 09:08 AM

I think I'm with you there, the main problem is that skinny pedal on the right... I just enjoy driving her too much!

i can get somewhere around 200-250 or so on a 4.8is, thats if i am driving slow, which is uncommon ;) generally its like 175-200 per tank

aliman 01-24-2009 08:25 AM

with my 3.0 diesel i go around 750 km with 85 liters. ;)

there is definitely a difference between what the computer says is mileage vs actual tank fillup - the legs I got 22.6 & 22.7mpg (actual), the computer said 25mpg - still in a 4.4 I'm estatic over getting 22+mpg

my computer read 15mpg doing 100+mph and only made 16-17mpg on the tankfull from Idaho Falls,ID to Wells NV - but my excuse is the Dinan mods included a larger thottlebody
