Faulty Parking Sensor - DIY FIX?
 

My Parking Sensors have stopped working - and for the Wife’s sake I need to try and get them fixed. :)

Anyway - When I engage into Reverse gear I get a constant beep for a couple of seconds from the rear. The Parking Sensor indicator lights up and flashes however no response to obstacles.

The sensors are clean and don’t appear damaged at all.

I am now outside of warranty, on eBay its possible to buy replacement sensors for about £10 ($14USD) but in terms of DIY fix it appears to be a big job?

Is it worth attempting a DIY fix or should I send it to the stealer? Anyone know how much I would be looking to pay - assuming its just a sensor that’s broke?

mine does this as well..about 50% of the time...very annoying.

I know which sensor is definetly faulty now - its the rear passenger side (UK) the one in the corner. I used the click test- all other sensors emit a clicking sound with the exception of this one. The stealer wanted to charge me £50 to diagnose this fault- what a joke.
Does anyone know if this sensor is difficult to get at for a DIY PDC FIX?

The next question is - do i take it to the stealer to be charged £180 for this repair - or attempt it myself.

Hopefully i can obtain the part cheaply.. any tips?

PM me if you don't mind buying a used, but good working sensor. (had to change designs with my hitch install for clearance issues)

My X5 started doing this exact same thing last month. Can you give an explanation of this click test and how you did it?

Definitely do this job yourself, never go to the stealer if you can do it on your own.

not much more to add really.

Start car - hit the pdc button manually-
Walk around the X5, putting you ear next to each sensor, you should hear a clicking noise from all working sensors.

If no clicking noise then either , all your sensors are not broken(unlikely) or there is something wroung with your control unit.

Yes it is. You reach up inside the bumper from below and twist it and it should pop out. Failing that, break the little plastic retainer on the outside of the bumper and fit a new one (approx 50p).
