X5 Automatic Park Action (2005)

When you put the X5 auto transmission in the Park position does this lock all wheels or just the rear ones?

Malcolm As far as I know the E53 has a parking pawl in the transmission that stops the car from moving. It does not lock any of the wheels. The only way to lock any of the wheels is the apply the parking brake which activates the brake on the rear wheels only.

The reason I ask is that I today parked the X5 on a slight incline (in 'P' and handbrake on) with the front wheels on firm tarmac ground (with no ice) and the rear wheels on icy ground. It stayed stationary for about 2-3 mins and then slid forward until the rear wheels came off the ice onto the tarmac with no ice and then stopped.
