MP3 CDs not working? 2006 4.4i w/DSP / Changer

Well my manual says I can play MP3 / WMA discs, but I'm not having any luck. Do all of the files need to be in the root folder? Do I need to keep bitrate at a specific level? I've done some searches but I'm not having a lot of luck.

Any pointers are appreciated!!!

are you giving it time to load the disc (it takes a long time the 1st time) and what is your production date?

Your car has to be produced after september of 05 or no mp3 on your changer

Just checked... my build date is 12/05. Weird. I gave it time to load, but it shows 'No CD' on the screen when I try to access. Will play with it some more.

Check the charher lable..
worst case the charger broke and the previus owner replaced it self or with bad indy/dealer so you ended up with none mp3 charger

Ok I assume you mean the changer label... any idea what I should be looking for? Will it say 'MP3 capable' or something to identify?

Thx

And this is a CPO 4.4i with 18k miles, so I don't think anything's been replaced. I have full dealer service records as well.

try to put the disc in a different slot in the magazine, the system doesn't realize it can play MP3s until you play them for the 1st time, basically updates itself

E5M1R 02-07-2009 01:49 PM

the charger lable should also state producton date

What is the model number of your changer and the build date of your changer?

What did you find out? Just picked up an 06' 4.4i myself with 18k miles - but build date is September 30th... I will ask the dealer, but I assume this means I dont have Mp3. Wonder if they'd be willing to swap it since it's supposed to in 2006.

I can play WMA files in my 2006, but not MP3s.

In my late 2004 X5 I updated the CD Changer from SEP 2004 (non MP3) to a MARCH 2006 model and it plays MP3 directly.

The model I have is 65.12-6 983 334-1 (this one only has the 3 and 6 pin connectors).

There is very little delay when choosing which MP3 CD to play and is no different in time delay than playing a normal audio CD.

As far as I know the CD Changer has to have a manufacture date of 10/05 or later.

Hope this is of some use.
