rear parking sensor fault!!

Hello,

I am having an issue with one of the rear parking sensors of my x. When I engage into Reverse gear I get a constant beep from the rear. there is no any Parking Sensor indicator lights up and flashes..

The sensors are clean and don’t appear damaged at all.

Could you please help me solve this issue? Is is a DIY option or it must be done by BMW Technician.

Thanks

Mario.

I wrote about this issue to one of our members, PDC censors have 2 little thin wires inside, and they can be damaged or disconnected, and they can also be easly repaired, to find out which back censor is causing the whole system not to operate, you need to go near each censor, and put your finger very very close to it, and you will feel little sting or feeling on your finger, whichever censor is not giving that feeling thats the one that is damaged, try it

If you start the car and push the button and go out and put your ear up to each sensor. They click. The bad one wont.

I know which one of mine are not working - rear outside edge. Is it possible to get the sensor out without having to take of the entire bumper?

mariosp 02-11-2009 09:56 AM

I found out which sensor has the problem! When I clicked on it it fell into the bumber, what I must do now?

You can reach under the rear bumper and touch them and see them. They simply slide into the housing from behind. Two tabs hold them into place. Just put it back into the housing.

Hello
I managed to disconnect and remove the sensor from the bumber. But I lost that plastic housing:(

I am attaching you the photo! Could you please help to buy online ? sensor or this plastic cover housing....

How I suppose to search? I tried parking sensors BMW x5 at ebay with no results

Look here for part# and order from a dealer or online somewhere. I doubt you'll find just the holder on ebay. You can try a search on "PDC" Parking Distance Control. Double-check that its the same for your model.

The #6 and #8 covers are only a couple bucks at the dealer.... cheap cheap. The #5 and #7 adapter pieces are re-used with the new sensor.

Thank you both! I appreciate your help!

mine is not working eather. All of them sensors click but when I push to activate pdc it flashes and beeps. What could it be? where is the main controller located on a 05 x5 4.4? realoem.com says the main relay or controller has been discointinued.

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys! I'm also having the same problem with the rear sensor. and my passengers agree that the sensor is not working properly... simply because I leave it beeping until they go crazy! Anyways, I'll stick to the clicking check, not the shocking! lol. Peace.

roryhinds 07-19-2011 01:20 PM

I have checked all my sensors and found one to be not "clicking" so I took it apart and put it back together again and it "clicks" now but I'm still getting the long beep sound and PDC light flashing when I reverse.

Does anyone know why this will still be happening as the sensors are all "clicking"
What else could I check to get my PDC working again?
Please help as this is driving me mad

Weasel 07-19-2011 07:13 PM

The easiest way is to read the faults, it'll actually tell you which sensor is bad. But you need a GT1 or GT1 equipped shop for that unfortunately...

roryhinds 07-19-2011 07:37 PM

Is GT1 the computer they use to plug in and get error codes?

sneary 07-19-2011 08:09 PM

i have had this problem as well. i bought a new sensor and installed with no success of a fix so i ended up buying a new main harness and now it works like a charm!!!

DrewN209 07-19-2011 09:26 PM

Where is the Main harness located ? I'm having trouble again and stared to think it's wiring up stream of all the functioning sensors

roryhinds 07-19-2011 09:57 PM

Please tell where the main harness is and where you bought the part from.
Thanks
Rory

As Weasel noted, the best thing to do is get the codes read. Otherwise you don't know what you are trying to fix.

Wiring harnesses are frequent causes of PDC problems (apart from the sensors), particularly where they are exposed to the elements like the harness behind the rear bumper.

The controller is behind the fuse panel (in the luggage compartment) but since you will have to search for one (used or otherwise), it would be better to know that it is actually the problem first.
