Some common problems with my X5 4.6is
 

Hey everybody,

I bought a nice x5 4.6is with 53.000 km'si n december. Posted already a thread about it. Now, after two months of happy driving i made a list of things that i want to have fixed. Neither DIY or with an Inspection II.

Does annyone have comments on this list. Anny help is appreciated!

1. RDC
I get the message "tyrecontrol inactive". I can set the pressure by holding the button in key position 2. But after a short while i get that message. I think it's a sensor, but maybey due to the change from winter to summer tires recentely. Can resetting the rdc by removing the fuse help?

2. Check engine oil level
Get this message in the OBD after stopping the engine. Checked the oil level several times. It's ok. This must be a faulty sensor i think.

3. Rear wiper
The rear wiper doesn't wipe the whole window. Just the two outer ends. Checked the wiper, but that seems to be ok :dunno: . I will trie to change the wiper by myself. Read that it's a common issue on the X5. mechanical parts seems to be ok, so it muist be the wiper itself.

4. Noisy secundery air pump.
The air pump is noisy, i can hear it in the car (double glass too). The working seems fine, but the noise is far too loud. I will try to clean the pump.

5. Leaking front headlight
After washing the car is saw vapour at the inside. I saw that one headlight is leaking a bit. I looks like that this is happening at the bottum of the headlight. Some sillicone will sort this out i think.

6. PDC
Last week the PCD button started flashing and i think it's not operating. Or did i push te button in the wrong way? I will check the sensors tonight.

Nice to know: my pixex problem dissapeared after installing the sim card from the phone.. :thumbup:

That's all. A few minor things like two floormat "holders" are missing, replacing ashtrays, replacing airfilter am i going to do by myself.

1: Is probably a faulty sensor, or faulty front or rear antenna.


3: the rear window wiper is easy to replace. I replaced all my wipers with a modern ''flat'' design. Works great.

6: Most probably a faulty sensor. Do a search on the forum here as there are several threads about this.

Is your car still under any kind of warranty? Some of those issues have been written up in SIB's and can be fixed by a reprogram from the dealer. I'd get better wipers (Bosch icons or Valeos). What is your production date?

I found some condensation at the bottom of my left headlight as well. It disappeared in like 1 minute but might as well get it fixed since it's under warranty. Good luck with your problems!!
