Oil Separator - Heated Collar
Has any x5'er done the "heated collar for crankcase ventilation" - SIB 11 01 04 (062) 02/2004 modification to prevent frozen oil separator problems?
For those in colder climates I think this should be done for peace of mind. I will be doing this soon. |
The dealer just did my oil sep. in Dec w/ the upgraded kit (bmw na paid for it, minus $100)...re-located dip stick and etc. I wonder if this was apart of the upgraded kit. I have all the records w/ info. It was in the -20's to - 5 F for over a couple of weeks...
Do you have any pics of this heat collar... how does the heater work? |
Not sure about "heated collar for crankcase ventilation" - SIB 11 01 04 (062) 02/2004 .
But I'm in the middle of SIB 11 08 03 October 2007. It doesn't mention "heated collar" just an upgraded insulated Oil Seperator and all the new hoses are insulated as well. |

Are these SIBs covered by BMW or just a recommended way to fix the issue at the owner's expense (when the X5 is out of warranty)? I have a 2002 X5 and would love to know! :)

TIS version 3.4.2(DVD 08/2007) that I have says was valid under warranty until February 2007.
Maybe somebody has a later version. |
I'm far from being under warranty ... so I guess I get to eat it and do it myself? :)
