Help!! Tow Bar/Hitch now stuck!

I have just recently fitted the tow bar ('hitch' to you guys across the pond!-sorry to use that very dated cliche) to my 2001 4.4, but now I cant get it off the vehicle. :banghead:

The release mechanism that you twist DOES loosen it to quite an extent but it still remains stuck. I think (out of the three sprung-loaded balls) one of them must be stuck out and holding the bar/hitch in place. I've given it a whack with a big hammer to try and free the remaining ball bearing but no joy. Without taking the rear bumper off, I dont think there is any other way of getting to it even to just spray some WD40 on it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? :dunno:
