Is there a specific size of Brembo calipers to fit a 2001 X5 with 4.6 wheels. There are a lot for sale on Ebay cheap from stock units off cars and trucks.

Is there a specific size or style that would fit my front rotors?:dunno:

That caliper linked is set up to fit a jeep... they are in vehicle specific applications. You also say 4.6 wheels, which are 20" and would fit any brake setup you want to throw in there... but the calipers, rotors, atc would have to be ordered for what your truck is.

So your saying is there no way to buy used Brembo Calipers from another vehicle and have them fitted to new rotors for our X5 and not spend the $1000's of dollars then, heh?

Of course there is a way, but if no one has done this b4 there will be a lot of ''trial and error'' before you find the right caliper type and make the right adaptor to make them fit.

I take it your plan is to use the original discs, and simply upgrade the calipers?

I have a set of Ferrari 360 calipers laying in my garage, and it is in my DISTANT plan to fit these on the X..... If I get around to do it, or not, time will show.

My proposed mod plan was/is to buy new approriate sized rotors, most likely drilled Brembo ones, new pads and refit 2nd hand Brembo Calipers. I need to redo brakes anyway. Mostly i wanted to do fronts with Brembo's as that's seems where they make difference.

I am sure if I buy lunch for BMW mechanic again at local stealer I can get an answer. This is my usual ploy.

Clearly what I want/need to do, is do this on the cheap as times they are a changing and my budget is limited.:genius:

even the expensive conversion kits uses a adaptor for the caliper, as the ''offset'' on a single piston caliper is very different to that of a caliper with pistons on both sides.

The easies, and cheapest is to retain the OEM discs, fit ''suitable'' calipers with an adaptor to compensate for the difference in hole offset and distance....

As far as the BMW techs go, very few of them have any insight beyond the OEM stuff, as that is what they are fitting.

BUT, should you get a good suggestion please let me know...

For me this is more of an mods for the looks rather than the improved brake performance. The org. brakes are more than good enough, especially on the 4,6 and 4,8. I just want the look of the proper calipers under the wheels. The org. calipers looks cheap......

What is wrong with OEM?

looks like its off a KIA.... its not a BMW worthy..... look at the brakes on a Cayenne, Touareg, ML, etc.....

if you have the time to weld some new mounting brackets for these calipers than yes. r u capable of that? Good luck and lets see some pics when your done

That $4,368.00 price tag is enough deterrent for me :p:
