Check Engine Light - E53 4.4i
 

Hi Guys,

My Wife jumped in the X5 today to go to work, and noted that a) It was hard to start, and b) didn't sound right when idiling. Low and behold, just as she leaves the drive way, the "Check Engine" light appears on the Dash Board.

What does the Light mean, and what damage could be happening to the car, if it got driven ~40 Kms with the light on?

The car is a 2005 E53 4.4i.
