Is the battery covered under warranty?
 

Hi guys! Do you know if the battery will be covered under warranty? My X is only 2 years old, i use it everyday without any signs of draining then all of a sudden it won't start yesterday. What's your experience? Thanks!

The stealer said I didn't drive enough miles to recharge the battery and that's what caused the battery to die early. That's the reason they are telling me why the it is not covered under warranty? My car is CPO and in the 11 months I owned it, I only added 6,000 miles to it.

I would "push" harder on your dealer. Ask them specifically how many miles per year qualifies as "enough" to recharge the battery and kindly ask them to show you the official BMW publication on this matter stating such.

BTW...how old is your X?

My X is first sold on Sept 2006 then I got it 11 months ago and added 6k miles. Total mileage now is 20K plus.

What is enough driving? And if that's the case, should BMW's come with a battery tender?.....Phil

I am sometimes away from my house and cars for about a year - then when I get home, I charge the battery and drive the cars. I don't seem to have any extraordinary battery problems.

Is your car still under the 4 year /50,000 mile warranty or already in the extended warranty period? BTW, they should do a load test (maybe they did) on the battery. If it fails then it gets changed, otherwise just charged.

I've found that dealers will do what ever possible to not replace your battery since it is fairly costly. I've gone through the run-around with dealers where they blame it on you, ipods, cigarette lighters, interior lamps, etc...but never the battery. Most likely, there is some control unit or Final Stage resistor draining your battery. The best way the dealer can diagnose it is by pulling fuses and measuring the current draw until they find the culprit. After 2 months of having a dying battery, i went to a more reputable dealer that properly diagnosed the problem and eventually replaced the battery on my 04. It was all covered under warranty.
