Quick advice Please - Hit and Run
Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately the X was involved in a hit and run overnight in front of our house. I came out this morning to find my plate and plate holder together on the ground and a good sized dent to the part of the bumper where the plate would be in line with my PDC - which no longer works now. Below that is several scrapes. After doing some research I have found that the black bumper is actually attached to the painted part which goes around my fogs as well and costs over $700 from the dealer! I have a 2004 Post Face Lift. Would you advise me to go through my insurance for the whole process or do you think a great body guy would be able to work some magic on this? Anyone else have experience with damaged bumpers? I appreciate all and any responses! Will try and post pics in a bit. Thanks Much. |
go through insurance and get the 4.8 front bumper you will love it

Some pix would definitely help...you should file with your insurance regardless. An auto shop can perform miracles but if you plan on selling the X someday, you may lose points, depending on what type of work was done. I suggest a new bumper if the damage is bad enough. Again, hard to tell without pix.

talk to your insurance agent... if this doesn't increase your insurance, go through insurance...

only problem with going with the insurance is whenyou do go to sell your truck that claim will come up as front end damage so that theroy of "points off " spikes alot higher in my book if you do go that route take pics an put aside to show potential buyers it was minor:thumbup:

Yeah I don't know how it might effect the carfax or not. But you could always disclose the stuff to the future buyer with pics & stuff, like hey the carfax says this, but it was a small hit and I just wanted a guarantee of 100% BMW parts, paint, etc. so I declared the damage, insurance paid, and I got a whole new front end worth $3000, etc.

Also, if the PDC isn't working there will likely be either a damaged/cracked sensor or pinched/cut wiring on the bumper from the impact.
What I would do is have an estimate by a BMW APPROVED body shop (ask dealer who they use themselves for best work and knowledge) and figure out if you wanna pay that or your deductable. As for it flagging questions with possible future buyers, simply take a couple pics showing the little damage to put them at ease that it was simply minor cosmetic damage. |
