OOO Cool! :thumbup::thumbup:

mrkbbd 03-03-2009 08:34 PM

that's bad a$$, I almost got mine stuck in the parking garage today. I went over some ice and stopped (didn't realize it was ice b/c I coasted to a stop) then hit the gas and couldn't get going, flipped the DSC off and got on it, took it a little bit then got it going, it was a little embarrassing having a SUV and getting stuck on flat ground, oh and it was a closed garage so of course with the 4.8 exhaust everybody is like WTF is going on

anas 03-03-2009 08:40 PM

that looks like alot of fun but i'll feel bad to do it in the X5 , i've played in the mud plenty of times in the ridgeline & did not care... its lease :)

tonycajjo 03-03-2009 09:49 PM

totally awesome. miss off roading with my pick up, theres some rough terrain in CT that i would never introduce to my road ready X. (well alot of the areas i speak of now have condos / neighborhoods going up)

X5 Meister 03-04-2009 02:53 PM

Just looks like he's giving it some gas.
To the other poster, I can't remember where I got the pictures! Sorry.

Fraser 03-05-2009 04:08 AM

That's not off-roading. Just driving through a little water.

do you have anymore pics like in your profile avatar FRASER?

TwinsPoppa 03-05-2009 03:17 PM

Uhhh ... I thought you're not supposed to take the X in water that deep. Someone on the board reported it got all their electronics wet in the trunk or something and short-circuited.

Looks fun but I'm not takin my X off-road, period. Its a pavement beast ... not an off-road hog! :D

jsears 03-05-2009 03:36 PM

Who's gonna be the first to add the snorkel mod?

I have a nice short of a 4.4 going up the same hill (my avatar is a 3.0d) but I need to re-size it before I can post it here.

butundo 03-06-2009 03:10 AM

all I think about when I see that water is replacing sensors. I have enough problems, no off roading for me. We do that in my buddies FJ.

JCL 03-06-2009 04:38 PM

Read here about another member's experiences in fording a creek a few years back. Make sure you read post #13, where he lists the components that had to be replaced after this (mis)adventure.

TwinsPoppa 03-06-2009 04:49 PM

Yup, JCL, that's the one I was thinking of.

Official wading depth for the E53 is 500mm at 7km/h. So, if this guy went to 600mm at 8km/h, there's not much margin for error.

Me too.

X5 Meister 03-06-2009 06:56 PM

Yeah. Should always carry the official BMW measuring stick to make certain that the entire river is no deeper than 500mm. Here's a little tip that I've come up with... after wading through the river with the BMW measuring stick make sure to dry yourself off before getting back into the car to drive it across. That will prevent you from getting the urge to dry yourself off with the seat heating function which unfortunately doesn't work all that well.

blktoptrvl 03-07-2009 12:24 AM

If anyone doesn't understand that those are specially prepared non-stock cars, then I wish you a lot of luck in repairing your X.

hahahahahaha. what's the big deal? drive it thru the mud, it can be washed.

Yeah, you can drive through mud but not through water more than knee deep. See what BMW recommends.

panzercommander 03-08-2009 08:29 PM

ive done it and survived. not often, but it has been done

felt good until a nissan silva followed me up there LOL

Cole 06-24-2009 02:59 AM

I like the "nudge" bar on the front of your X... is that an Aus specific mod or is it a standard BMW accessory? I do a fair bit of dirt roading in my X5 and the grass growing up from the middle of the track ridge can do a lot of damage! Do you have any other off roading mods on it?

vinuneuro 06-24-2009 03:08 AM

That's a BMW accessory you should be able to get anywhere.

djc,
That's one mighty fine pic you got there. You weren't at the end of the track on Mt Kosciuszko, were you ?? I figure you were, 'cause that's about the only road in Aus. that goes that high.

I hope 'Fraser' chimes in, as he gets off road n dirty in his X. Check his avatar

djc 06-24-2009 04:46 AM

No, it's Mt McKay in Victoria (above Falls Creek Ski Resort) Sat Nav read 6080ft, I must admit I didn't verify the 'highest road' claim, just read it on the sign on the way up....

BTW, the nudge bar is plastic, so not a huge amount of protection but certainly would keep the long grass out, I suppose. No other mods other than a dice set up. I bought the X5 mainly to tow my two tonne boat which it does easily.

The 'highest road' call is somethin nothin. Quite a unique pic for over here. I hope to do a run south one summer as well, to where the mountain men like mountain women :wow:

Are you sure your nudge bar is plastic? 'cause I've got one that looks just like yours but it's made of steel. Apart from mowing long grass paddocks it's a good deterrant in parking lots with cars facing each other.

RENEE 06-24-2009 11:15 AM

sweet, nice pic top of ozzie :2thumbs:

Fraser 06-25-2009 04:34 AM

The road to the top of Mt. Kosciuszko has been closed for a long time. I remember driving up there in the old man's VW 1200 (Beetle) yonks ago.

X Foomph 06-25-2009 05:02 AM

Hi Fraser,
I knew you'd pop in. How about a few pics of your offroading exploits ??

Fraser 06-25-2009 05:44 AM

Too busy driving to be taking any pics. Besides, when I go seriously off road I take my old Range Rover, not the X. Will try to post some pics of the X (and the RR) off-road asap.
