2001 e53 smoking through heat vents and hood
This morning on my daily commute i noticed a smokey smell and thought nothing of it until about a minute later smoke started being released into the interior through the heating vents, I had the heat on about 75 and cranked a little high. When I parked i noticed smoke from the hood so I lifted the hood and smoke was coming from the engine bay. Any ideas of what the problem could be? I am taking it to my indy today and trying to resolve this ASAP.

What color was the smoke and what did it smell like (oil, anti-freeze)? Could you tell what section of the engine bay it was coming from?
|
The smoke was more of a whiteish and it smelled like it could have been either electrical or anti freeze, I'm thinking the cold could be be related somehow because it was 12 degrees.

Oh ohh time for new head gasket and oil separator

oil seperator was replaced about two years ago possible for it to have gone that fast?

Sorry, have no idea whats wrong with your X but it sounds like antifreeze is leaking in the engine bay somewhere. Does the X have a heater core? Could that be a cause of the smoke from the vents? Weasel where are ya! :D |
