Made in Mexico?
I have a 02 X5 4.6 with style 168 rims. Does anyone know if BMW had these wheels made in Mexico cause thats is what the stamp says on the inside of the wheel? I'm just trying to figure out if they are OEM or replicas...I realize that BMW may have had a few different suppliers but I expected the stamp to say "Made in Germany"

See this link; came up on the JukeBox, yesterday.

motordavid,
Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry I was just lazy, didnt do a search, just fired off a question. I have used the search function many times with great success. The link you supplied seems to imply that my rims could be factory even thought made in Mexico. What is Jukbox? F16Driver |

but if yours were eom, I would think yours are also legit oem... "Jukebox": just an expression I use, as many posts come up around here regularly like the Top 40 did back in the Jukebox days. :D |
Motordavid,
I purchased my X5 used about 10 months ago. My paper trail goes back and shows the wheels as not original to the car when it was new but an add on at the original dealership about the time the X was 1 year old. I guess my best bet is to run the part number on the inner wheel and see what I come up with. F16Driver |
BMW Part Numbers for 168s:
36 11 6 766 068 = Front 9.5x20 36 11 6 766 069 = Rear 10.5x20 Don't know if those numbers are actually stamped on the wheels though. |
You're in luck. Here's a pic of my 168s before I sold them. Looks like it has the part number and it says Mexico too:
