Dipping passenger-side mirror
OK I know that you have the option of having the passenger-side mirror dip when you shift into reverse. Its a feature I do not often use.
QUESTION IS: Is the mirror SUPPOSED to return to its 'normal' position when you shift back into "D" (out of reverse). My mirror seems to be stuck in the dipped position until I manually re-adjust it. |

and if you dont want it to 'dip' when reversing, move the side mirror selector to the right... |

Had the same issue on my X, Dealer replaced the motor assy under CPO warranty, of course had to pay the $50.00 deductable.

An alternative method to getting it to go back without "manually" adjusting it is to hold the seating position button that stores your mirror and seating position settings.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I just got my X5 this year, and I searched this issue with little result.
My passenger side mirror dips, but not very far (I don't know how far it's supposed to move), and sometimes "looks up and down" before settling on a spot (not always the same). It does, however, always come back to the pre-set position when I shift back into drive. Does anyone else's mirror act like this? Also, is it supposed to dip enough just to see the curb, or enough to see parking space lines? |
The E53 had mirror position sensors that can be cleaned. See this very useful thread:
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...d-writeup.html Mine only ever dipped enough to see the curb, not the lines. Not adjustable. |

Thank you so much. You even answered my next question (about adjustability). :) |
