Cost for oil pan gasket replacement??

Hello - does anyone have an idea of the cost for an oil pan gasket replacement?
It looks like there are seals around the axel where it goes through the pan. I just don't want to be taken over by the dealer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. By the way it is a 2001 3.0i

I would check on realoem.com to get an approximate cost or get the part # there and shop around. You can try a search on the forum too.

Part 8?

is yours leaking? I just did mine a couple month back(4.4). mine wasn't leaking but I took it off to repair the drain plug thread. it's quite easy though. remember to replace all bolts too. parts cost like $40 or $50 for the gasket and bolts.

if you can do oil change, you can also do it yourself.

oh. not sure if there is any suspension parts that you need to remove on 3.0 though. on 4.4, there is none.

Thanks for all the replies. But I have heard the suspension will have to be dropped and also some movement of the axle. I ran it by my local mechanic and he will not touch it. He did tell me though it is a 10-12 job in labor. If that is true this can be one hefty bill ~$1000.00. This is what I am trying to confirm. Anyone have their's replaced? Thanks again

Hhmm, $1K sounds cheap for 10hrs but maybe if you get a quote from the dealer it might be less - because they might quicker. :dunno:

I think suspension parts and axle need to be dropped on 3.0 for this job(after seeing the picture on realoem). On 4.4, there are upper and lower gaskets and for upper one, suspension parts have to be taken out to get access to. But for lower gasket(one I did), no need to drop other things besides the re-enforcement plate.

Thanks for the replies on telling me what needs to be done but has anyone paid to have it done and what was the cost? Is this a few hundred$$ or couple thousand$$$/ Thoughts? Thanks

So no one has ever paid to have this done? Thought for sure someone would have info. I will post then for everyone else when I find the cost on Monday.

Have you an update?

I am pretty sure on the 3.0i, the front axleshafts go through the oil pan, and you have to raise the motor AND take the front drive somewhat apart...at least when I took my skid plate off, that is what I think I saw, along with a ton of oil leaking from somewhere.

guys lets keep this post going cause im having the same issue with a flickering oil light....check the pan and there is some residue along the seal....hope its not $$$$
