replaced steering wheel, rain sensor issues

so i replaced the sport wheel on my wife's x5 with a heated steerig wheel. I also replaced the slipring since the original did not have the plugs for heated steering. However i just noticed last night the rain sensor does not kick in anymore. I dont remember, but on the first click on the wiper stalk, it should still do intermittment wiping right? or does it only wipe when the rain sensor kick in? there was huge wet snow storm last night, and my rain sensor would not kick in or the intermittment wiping did not either, had to keep manually wiping by pushing down. However the second click up, the faster wiping still worked. Any ideas?

Yes, I believe its supposed to work at first up position WITH the rain sensor if you have it. However, if I remember correctly, you have to actually activate the intermittent wiping before it actually works and continues to work. For example, once you're in position 1 you need to turn the dial to engage the intermittent wiping (again in conjunction with the rain sensor). Then adjust the dial to your liking. From then on it will wipe based on the rain sensor/speed.

You have to do this every time you turn the car on and want to use the intermittent wiping feature from position 1.
