Need advice: Follow-up overhead console drip

This is a follow-up to this thread: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...d-console.html

I took the X5 to the dealer to diagnose the cause of the drips. Mind you I put the car through a touch-less wash 2 days ago with no dripping noted. Still I took it in because one does not expect vehicles especially $70K+ ones, to leak. The SA said it may have been possible that the drains FROZE and clogged during the cold spell and have since thawed.

The SA also warned me that should it be a weatherstrip problem, that weatherstrips are NOT COVERED by the CPO warranty.

If they blame a non-CPO warranty cause, what are my options? Can this be appealed? Regular warranty ended 3 mos ago. Funny how problems seem to be programed to pop-up after warranty expires.

Oh BTW.. I got a nice 2009 323i with only 2,000 miles on it for the day.

Have they bothered to pull the a-pillar covers off yet to see if the drain tubes are kinked? Very common problem for the late '04 and early '05 but seems to be a problem for all of them, per my dealer's shop foreman.

When my overhead console dripped, they pulled the pillar cover and the drain hose was kinked shut! The had to pull the sunroof cassette out to replace the tube. But then the brain surgeon who did the sork put the pillar cover back on so that one of the tabs crimped the tube shut again. Cassette out again and another hose installed. No leaks since.

That's odd...mine was dripping as well and the repair was completely under warranty...which is crazy because 2 years ago they threatened to void my warranty for taking my car off roading...and it's a known that my roof issues are caused by mud and rocks that got all up in the sunroof mechanisms.

OK I just received a call from the SA. He said they found a kinked drain tube and fixed the problem.

Funny thing is that I'm expected to pay $120. I don;t understand why this is not covered under CPO warranty when the kink was likely there since Day 1.

Dang. That sucks. Usually I tell them to hold off on any repairs that'll cost $100 or up. Then I'll ask my SA what I need to tell another dealer to get it repaired under warranty...

I say just bite the $120 and be happy that they don't have to replace the sunroof cassette. Keep on their good side. I'd save my bitching for some REAL expensive stuff.

Good Luck!

Bring them donuts.

I'd contact BMW and ask for their assistance. That hose didn't kink by itself, it was built that way.

Yes, I found the TSB on another forum and it does not indicate that this is covered under CPO.

But if it persists or happens again then I will expect them to fix it for free.
