Time for a new battery?

I had to jump my car today for the first time in years. I think it might be time to beef up my battery with a deep cycle one. I have an '05 X5 3.0i. It has a radar detector, Sirius radio, and three emergency lights(similar to this, but they're usually not on) attached to the 12V sockets. Unfortunately, these sockets are always on and unplugging everything just isn't something I'd like to do every time I turn the car off. I also live in Upstate NY, so it gets pretty cold here too. Because I'm a volunteer firefighter, having to jump my car is a real inconvenience for me.

I know nothing really about batteries except that a deep cycle can discharge much more of it's charge.

Would a deep cycle battery be a good investment?

If it would be, what type of deep cycle should I get?

4-5 years is normal max life of a battery, that's from a friend that got a factory making them :D
5 years is on the luck of the draw side.

My suggestion change it , batteries are cheap

Battery was replaced in about '07, I believe after it ran out of juice last time.

Well full charge it for a full night and see if die again fast.

Personally my batteries when die are always in cold winter days :)

But a 2007 battery dieing , must be really a defective part .

It's above freezing and my car is stored in a heated garage. That's what makes even less sense.

It's been having more and more trouble starting lately until today as well.

Personally i try first with a new battery , it rather cheap one and at worst you got a backup one.
There are horrible stories of people jumping X5 and getting electronic parts die that cost 1k+ :wow:

Well, my X5 is pretty much one giant horror story.

You may have to be patient for a post from a "deep cycle battery"
user, for their 2 Cts. There are several oem style/size battery brands
for sale in the mkt, even in your Capitol City area. The DIY swap is
cake; I have a good thread with pics, if you need it.

That hot socket is not helping the situ, as you know...

A new batt., "regular" or the deep cycle kind will solve your problems
for awhile, imo. I would also rec'd a Battery Tender for regular overnight
charging: that will keep your new batt up to charge.

Danke, señor.

I think I'm going to go deep cycle with the tender.

Should just throw a shoreline on there too.

Bump in hopes of a deep cycle user seeing thing thread.
