See the funky part Stan is that the 315 wore way quicker than the front 275's.... I just had an alignment done also.....they are wearing rather even..just wearing waaay to quick!

The fronts are where they should be at about 65% 70%........the rears are 35% 40%.................I did notice that the 315's are made in a different factory and country...

I am now more on a scientific quest as to why the 315's wore that much quicker.. any input??

Hows life Bro?? i told you that I was engaged and getting married this Aug...Nicole is coming to the meet...make sure Lana is coming...

Yes, Lana will be there. They can talk shoes and dresses, while we discuss suspensions and exhausts.

Not sure why the 315s are wearing faster. One guess is with a staggered setup we've got more rubber contacting the pavement in the back. And you'll typically get more miles with an all-season tread, but I'm sure you knew that already. I'm pretty happy with the Michelin Latitude Tour HP. They've got them for both 19-staggered and 20-staggered. They're double the treadwear rating of the "has-been" Diamaris that everyone USED to love (440 UTQG vs. 220).

take the lead wieght out of your boot , then your tyres will last longer.

Interesting thread... on a kind of related point, when I was test driving my new-to-me '04 4.8is the other day, I noticed on dirty surfaces I was getting unmistakeable rear wheelspin under sudden acceleration, before all four tyres gripped. Even with xDrive, the E53 has a meaningful rear torque-bias in normal conditions, right? If you're in regular on-off acceleration, rather than smooth touring conditions, might that not also add wear on the rears? By the way, is the excess wear on the rears even across the tyre? (obvious question, I know...)

Hey richirich - what are the treadwear, traction, and temperature ratings on those tires? I can't find them on their website.

Traction AA
Temp A

Thanks Ghigo. In that case I'm surprised at the wear. Turanza's went off at around 20,000 miles and they have a rating of 140. You didn't put 20,000 miles on the car in 6 month did you?

X5Dawg 03-11-2009 08:51 AM

I have always gotten 35K+ miles on my Toyo STs, but that was with the 17-inchers. I am on my first set of staggered 20's - I know I have 20K+ on them and they still have plenty of tread.

Whats up Meister... Definitely not 20....more like between 8 and 10 k....somewhere right in there....the wear is even.......could it be my lowered suspension??? I did have an alignment done.... again the fronts are on point.....now....to hythe's point......I do drive in manual with all the mods....I obviously dont beat on her..but I drive her.....hmmm??

Just mind boggeling??!!

Man, I don't know. 10,000 miles on tires. That sounds insane to me, although it would certainly explain their test results. Maybe you got a bad batch? I checked and just noticed that the US distributor for the company is in New Jeresy. Why not give them a call and have a chat. Maybe you can even drive over there for some advice or analysis or something? I'm going with Diamaris to replace my Turanza's next time and if I don't like them then I was starting to lean on the Vredestein', but with that kind of mileage, no chance in hell. For me that's like new tires every 3 month. Forget it. This is an SUV for all purposes, not a Ferrari to have just for fun.

Here is the deal.

I went to my INDY today for a better and more in depth look. I am at about 65% with my fronts and 30% with my rears... I'll have to snag two rear 315's to get me through and just about when the fronts are ready the rears should be ready again.....at that point which will probably be October November of this year.....I will then decide on which way to go with all four new tires.....perhaps an all season of sorts....who knows....
