rear air suspension inoperative
 

I've had my 06 4.4i sport into the dealer three times in the last three weeks to fix the rear air suspension inoperative fault. So far they have replaced the ride height controll module and have reset the ride height settings twice. I got my x back today and within ten miles the light came on again. Any suggestions? FWIW, the dealer and service rep have both been fantastic.

Did they repalce just the module, or the whole assembly that sits under the spare with the compressor and valves? The reason I ask is that there is a regular 30/87 relay in there to power the pump and over the years it can get a funky spot on the internal contacts that can cause it to be intermittently faulty. Could also be the internals of the air valve solenoids could be sticking as well. The relay can be changed separate, the valves can't and would require the whole "hump" to be changed.

Got to love electronic technology.

The dealer found a wire that is not factory which was connected to the ride height controll module. The wire heads towards the front of the vehicle. For some reason this unexplained wire fried the module. What are some ideas as to what this mystery wire is for? My thoughts are maybe the previous owner had a manual control up front to lower the rear air suspension and maybe had shorter sport springs up front? (no air suspension for fronts). Perhaps he deleated the control when his lease was up and replaced the front springs back to stock? Does anyone aftermarket offer such system?
