removing oil filter from holder!!

hi guys silly question but i decided to do an oil change today on my 4.4 2001 x5 the oil filter is up at the right hand side of the engine an when you unscrew it the filter is clipped into the piece you screw off, is there a certain way of getting the filter unclipped from there?
thanks

No special method...Just yank it out.

i wasnt too sure i thought it might break the clips at the top where they hold it in they are very tight?

There's nothing holding the filter to the canister top. It's just the rubber part of the filter being stuck to the canister top (heat can do that to rubber parts).
