Cleaning Dash

I have a black dash and it looks like the PO used a glue-like adhesive to attach a GPS or radar detector to. The 3 nickel-sized spots don't want to come off with mild soap & water and I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on tougher cleaners to use that won't damage the dash itself.

Denatured Alcohol! every time. Soak a paper towel, dab it on, let sit, VOILA

Don't buy goof off or those 'adhesive removers' they suck.

Dear God, DON'T DON'T DON'T DON'T use Goof Off. You will create a disaster on your dash that will never ever ever go away. That stuff is great on glass and similar surfaces, but on plastic or rubber you might as well shoot yourself now because when you see the end result you'll want to.

Get the Denatured Alcohol at any paint or hardware store.

Yeah, Goof Off was the first thing that someone recommended and I immediately thought the same thing. That's why I figured I'd ask around.

Is denatured alcohol the same thing as rubbing alcohol? I saw a reference to that online, but I want to make sure I'm putting the correct thing on my dash. If it isn't rubbing alcohol, is there a specific brand that you'd recommend? I'm guessing NAPA may have some on their shelf... :dunno:

Denatured alcohol, of any brand: auto parts stores, Walmart in paint
dept., HomeDepot, etc. Denatured is not exactly "rubbing"/isopropyl
alcohol. I would rec'd Denatured, but don't drink it: it's ethanol like
vodka, but has a chemical in it that is toxic and, thus untaxed like
liquor. Less is more, when you do the cleaning; you can always clean
a couple more times.

Thanks for clearing that up mD. I guess I'll have to take my bottle of booze out to the car with me while I do the detailing so I can save the cleaning product for the car.

I read that warning online too... people try the strangest stuff. :stickpoke

I'll go grab a bottle tonight and let you guys know how it goes.

I'd also put some on a spot that isn't very conspicuous to see if it discolors first. Good luck.

I'll give it a test run by rubbing some on the underside of the dash below the steering column or something first. Good idea.
