Turn Signal Lever Not Functioning (help)
 

The aftermarket stereo I removed from my car today was powered by a wire spliced into the power running to the turn signal lever. I unhooked the battery, removed the spliced wires, put everything back together and powered it all up.

The turn signal lever is not functioning at all. The high beams didn't activate, the turn signals didn't engage, and the cluster computer button didn't function.

I turned everything back off, unhooked the battery, and did an audit of all the fuses (something I should have done before starting up). I found that the normal 5 amp fuse for "on board computer II" (which I'm assuming is that lever?) was upped to a 30 amp fuse. I reinstalled the 5 amp fuse, gave it another shot, but still nothing.

What could my issue be? Could the over amp'd fuse have fried something? Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Oddly enough, the turn signals function with the hazard button depressed.

I tried unplugging the battery last night for about half of an hour, and the lever is still dead.

Could this be as simple as a lose ground for the lever? Or should I investigate replacing the lever? Any thoughts?

Hmmm .. if it all worked before and the only difference was the spliced wire - I would think there should be no problems.

Check and make sure you wired it back the same as before, w/o the splice of course. You can try reinstalling the radio to confirm something else was not introduced when you were mucking around.

It doesn't sound like anything is "fried" (there should be nothing to fry in the circuit you indicated). I agree with TP - get back in there and make sure it's all wired up correctly again. It is possible there is a problem where you cut out the splice and reconnected that wire they (read: idiots) were tapping power from.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I went and took apart the steering column and traced all the wiring. i found that in the process of installing the system, the lever harness was damaged, and it was carelessly taped back together. I re wired the harness, plugged it in, and its all working perfectly.
