driver side door problems

my drivers side window started acting up a couple days ago then went down and stayed down. i need help bad i went to a indy to get it fixed but now i have several problems 1) my airbag light came on and 2) it seems the one touch operation doesnt work going up and 3) when i hold the remote to lower the windows all go down except the drivers side 4) the power locks now are starting to work off and on 5) sometimes the drivers side switch does not open any of the windows until i jiggle the wires in between the drivers door harness if any one can help before i go to dealer i would greatly appreciate. i have searched the forums and the only one i saw was the door handle replacement which did not help:confused:

i would start by isolating that switch. Did the indy take the door panel off?

jmj155 03-22-2009 12:28 AM

yes he did he said he could fix the problem but as im reading on i think i got riiped . he just replaced everything back in and it started working except the one touch mechanism going up and the drivers side door lock wouldnt work while using the key fob all the other three doors would work.

Puddlejumper 03-22-2009 12:33 AM

that very well is why your SRS light is on he unpluged the terminal without disconnecting the battery. De he charge out any parts?

jmj155 03-22-2009 12:39 AM

as far as i know he didnt i was relatively close to him he did take the regulator out i assumed he was testing it because when he put it back in the window worked it wasnt until i left that i realized the one touch operation didnt work at that point i tried to open the windows by holding the key fob and realized all worked except the drivers side window. and it wouldnt lock the drivers side door

is it possible that all the lock problems are connected to the window problems

Puddlejumper 03-22-2009 12:51 AM

Well this is kinda pointless unless you going to try to do it yourself. If you take it to the dealer you know they have the parts and experience to fix it. If you try yourself there are always SRS reset tools floating around on ebay. Like I said try isolating that switch and report back. While your at it R&R the negative terminal off the battery and see if you get some better responses from the FOB.

jmj155 03-22-2009 12:55 AM

i will do that first thing tomorrow and report back i appreciate all your help hopefully i'llreport some good news i got ripped off once already. taking it to the stealer will be my very very last option

thanks again

Puddlejumper 03-22-2009 01:14 AM

Just an FYI, the "stealer" slang is really a bad way to attract attention for help from the men and women that have trained and are employed by the company that makes these awesome driving/looking vehicles. Not me, but they have earned my respect and I refrain from insulting them indirectly. See, its all good. If anything I would call the indy a bad name.

jmj155 03-22-2009 01:19 AM

i stand corrected your'e right its just frustrating to have such a vehicle with the options that you like not working. i probably should have just taken it to the dealer. but money is tight so i thought it was a easy fix but those who are trained right should ultimately do the work im sure theres quite a few indy guys out there that are just as knowledable. so as far as my indy guy goes he was a stealer lol.

good news for me i took the x5 to a place that only deals with bimmers
not sure if i can mention it here so pm me if anyone needs the name and address. those guys were life savers and only chaged me 1 hour of labor
even though they analyzed the car for longer than that so now all is good now. the problem was my indy guy totally ripped me off did not replace my regulator only rigged it so that my window would go up and down but disconnected the airbag meanwhile causing a short in master switch which caused the locks and windows to malfunction. firm believer now in only going to bmw certified techs for any major work.

Likely the switch is bad... does the switch still feel normal? Sometimes the bad switch doesn't have the "clicks" feel when pressing.

One thing you can do is either swap with a known good switch if you have a friend with an X5. Otherwise any shop with the same diagnostic equipment as the dealer (GT1) can look at the switch status through diagnostic requests to condemn/confirm the switch operation.

Oh yeah, WELCOME TO X5 WORLD!!! :wavey:

It ended up being a loose connection on the passenger switch. Cleaned up the connection all works fine now. Thanks....
