Replacing plastic part on Steering Wheel

1 Attachment(s)
Hello,

I need to replace the black plastic piece on my sterring wheel in my 06 4.8is. Th epart is listed as number 2 in the pic below. I have already received the part and need some help on how to remove the old part and put the new one in. Can someone please provide me the steps?

Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly there are 5 torx screws that hold it on. Not sure what size they were but unless you can find a shorter torx driver you might have to pull the steering wheel off. Plus you will have to remove the airbag first. Follow the step in here to remove the airbag:

Thanks so much for the info. I thought it would be easier than that. I am kinda scared messing with the airbag. If I disconnect my battery, is there a chance of the airbag deploting? Also to disconnect the battery, do I need to do it from the trunk?

Do it from the trunk.Just disconnect the negative only and you safe to start you work.

I couldn't find a bmw colour to match as my interiour trim is the carbon/darker one not the titanium/silver one it was actually a rover colour called stone grey and it was the best match to my trim and once laquered it came out really well and its been on now for some time and has no signs of wear and tear.A nice subtle difference to the interiour trim imo.:D

Can you post some shots of yours? I didn't know Rover steering wheels fitted BMW's?

Do you happen to know the Rover colour code number for the "Stone Grey" paint. I too have the graphite door handles and pull latches and will want to paint the steering wheel the same.
