Hi all,

After months of frustrations with the drama I had with the Umnitza's headlights, I've finally managed to get hold of a new set of headlights from other places that I'm quite happy with. So now I'm ready to move forward with my plan to give a fresh look to my 4.6iS, which I bought 6 months ago (after selling my X3 and moved back to my home town)!

Below is the "preview" of what it's going to be like from Photoshop. Let me know what you guys think. A little too much? Too ricey?

And here's the original... I'll leave to your sharp eyes to pick out what are being done to it ;-)

powder coat
black handles, grill, fog housing & badge
clear corners

I'm feelin' everything but the wheels, maybe a drop too... ;)

x555a 03-28-2009 01:48 PM

Looks great (or will) i'm not generally a fan of darker wheels but i have to say with all those subtle but effective mods and that colour car they look awsome imo.

ZsX5o3 03-28-2009 02:11 PM

Wow very creative I love it. You probably could swap the door handles with an '01 non-sport owner or 02-03 non-premium owner.

chilliwilli 03-28-2009 02:17 PM

Looks great imo...not ricey at all. I suggest an under-ride guard (if you can find one) and the master black-out roundel set from EAS. Great theme

TwinsPoppa 03-28-2009 02:35 PM

Its gonna look awesome!

Love the dark gray touches. ;)

Go ahead

simoncpw 03-29-2009 11:00 AM

Thanks guys.

TamMbALoLoNg got about half of them. The rest are 25mm rear and 15 front spacers, H&R lowering kit (which I tried to show from photoshop as well ;-), as well as body color lower grill and all roundels.

I was NEVER a fan of Black wheels too. My original idea was to keep them in silver and body-color the roof rail. But since I need to fill and re-spray one of the wheels anyway due to a pretty bad scratch last week, I gave it a try in photoshop to what's it's like in black, and I was quite pleased with the result. Hopefully it will turn out as nice. The question now is whether it should be in Glossy or Matt black (I'm skewed to Matt at the moment).

The front is pretty much done now except I need to redo the kidney grill (matt black the frames only and keeping the original titan stripes). Then will be going into the workshop this coming week to do the lowering, spacers and wheel paint job!!!

Will post some pic once it's done ;-)

Essam Khafagi 03-29-2009 11:19 AM

Don't paint the wheels black ... Ferric Grey would look better (sometimes called Gun Metal)

RarebreedX5 03-29-2009 11:34 AM

I think it looks awsome, I like the black door handles and the dividers in the front bumper, go for it

Naz24 03-29-2009 12:49 PM

i like it except the door handles. reminds me of the early 3.0 with the cheap black plastic door handles on it

I'll look at some samples at the workshop before making the final decision, but it will most likely be similar to the black for the bumper and flares as I want to keep it strictly to two-tones.

Nazz4 - yeh, I feel exactly the same. So I might skip the handles and since they are not easy to be taken out anyway.

Just got the car back and I'm so happy with the result! Still need to find a way to do the badges and get the car cleaned up. So here are some teasers first :-p

Wow that's coming together nice man. Good quality pics as well. Those are stock calipers painted red, right and you settled for matt on the rims ??

You have more than convinced me to run with 25mm spacers on the rear.

Do you have many other X5's in Hong Kong to compare with?

RMak 04-08-2009 06:40 AM

That's going to be one hot X5!! Can't wait to see the finished product.

I just got these eBay roundels and am pleased with the quality and fit. They all fit great and are as good quality as the OEM ones, no stickers.

jst2878 04-08-2009 08:58 AM

looks good...even the time attack line on the rims.you might get tired of it though

Essam Khafagi 04-08-2009 09:29 AM

That came out very nice! .. cant wait to see complete pics

RichiRich 04-08-2009 09:30 AM

She is looking really good man!!

Where did you end up getting your headlights.....you must share after the Umniiiiiiitza Drama!

GREAT JOB Simon!

Rich:thumbup:

Essam Khafagi 04-08-2009 09:36 AM

Simon is in Hong Kong ... it would be very easy for him to get the headlights ... He is inside the source!

probably not as he had to order from Umnitza first... got burned and now back on track...

cant wait to see the final pics...

simoncpw 04-08-2009 12:15 PM

Thanks guys!

X Foomph - yep, stock calipers painted red, and I went for matt-black which goes really well together with the rest of the black on the car. And yep, thanks to twinspoppa's advice, 25mm/rear and 15mm/front spacers are just perfect for my set up. There are quite a few X5 around here, but almost all of them are stock.

weasel56 - Thanks man. I've just put on the body-color-stickers from Bimmian, it looks ok but the effect is not as good as it was on my X3. I might give those B&W a try once I got all the rest stuff done. They are pretty easy get here and not too costly.

jst2878 - "time attack line" - you mean the silver border around the rims?

Essam & rich & jay - these headlights are exact the same as the one Umnitza was SUPPOSE to use for their P53: DEPO, LHD/RHD adjustable, leveling motor, AE (not CCFL). And ironically after months of drama and around the globe, I finally got them thru a really nice guy right here locally. Took only a couple of days and paid COD, and I converted the low beam to HID. (let me know if anyone wants but have problem getting these lights).

rastaFarai 04-08-2009 01:01 PM

looks great man.. love the silver border around the wheels. my FAVORITE touch. I wonder if i can do that with mine... lemans blue border... lol.. anyone going to throw stones at me for that suggestion??

LOVE THE MODS though.. great subtle touch -i'd stay away from the black handles..

Your X is really looking great and unique. Yes, the silver border is the "time attack line" and I love it!

But just like Richirich said in another post. Its not just one mod but the sum of your mods that really make your X. I don't do mods just to "have" the mod - it should fit/compliment the other mods.

I can't wait to see the finished product. The colored wheel arches/flares/trim also look nice.

simoncpw 04-09-2009 11:20 PM

rastaFarai - yep, my favorite is the silver border as well. But for your lemans blue, here's some idea for you :nanana:

TwinsPoppa - thank you man, the sizes for the spacers are just perfect. Do you know why the border is called "time attack line"? I agree, it's all about how all the mods come together. The thing I was concern about the most was if I went to much, but so far it looks just about right with all the little tweaks!

Got all the roundels done and installed the aluminum pedals. But still debating about the black handles, will play with some new ideas during this easter holidays.

Happy Easter to all!!!

dsm2925 04-10-2009 07:11 AM

looks great....

X5Dawg 04-10-2009 02:55 PM

Freakin' nice!!! Did you have all of your black trim painted glossy or do you have some type of treatment on the stock plastic??

I think I am going to have to do the fog light trim rings - I think that will go well with my black and white theme...

mtX5 04-11-2009 02:58 AM

simon!! its lookin good man! glad you FINALLY got the Umnitza issue dealt with. can't wait to see more pictures..

PersonaNonGrata 04-11-2009 03:41 AM

It looks fantastic Simon! The silver line left around the rim of the wheels is a very clever trick to simulate a multi-piece wheel. I first saw it done on a Porsche GT3 and thought it was a very cool trick.

Overall, a very nice result. We anticipate some great photos soon.

simoncpw 04-11-2009 04:07 AM

Thanks guys... here you go....

simoncpw 04-11-2009 05:25 AM

Nope, didn't paint any of the black trim. But they are cleaned on daily basis ;-)

Yep, I think black fog trim will work with white bodycolor. ;)
