X5 newbie

I am in the market for a 00-05 X5. I tow 2 atvs up to the mountains. At least once a month. I am a electrician. So I am always communting to jobsites. I am tired of the beating I take from my current car a Jeep. What type of matience will I have with a X5? What is the life of the 3.0 and 4.4l engines, what is the life of the tranny? Will the X5 be able to handle pulling 2 atvs and a trailer? What is MPG like with the 3.0 and 4.4l manual and auto? I have read a lot of X5 reviews. But, I wanted some real experiences.
I have owned a heavily moded E28 and currently own a E36 328i. So I am not a newbie to bmws.
Thanks

I tow a very large personal watercraft (Yamaha FX Cruiser) occasionally, and my X5 4.4 handles it like it wasn't even there. Longest towing trip I did was ~300 miles up into some small mountains (foot of the Appalacian chain in north Alabama). No problems at all. Of course, it did eat the gas mileage a bit more with the towing, but that is to be expected. :D

i towed a kawi 1100stx with my '01 4.4i and the X handled it without a problem, i didn't even know it was there. I don't have a hitch on my '04 so i can't compare.

Check this thread on X5's towing capabilities. He is towing a 31' airstream.

What type of matience bills do you all have yearly/monthly? Do any of you outfit the x5 with off road tires or all season tires? I am looking at a 2000-2002 4.4 with under 80k. How long do the engines last or are suppose to?
thanks
