Are there "bolted-on" 4.8 tips for 4.4 mufflers?
2 Attachment(s)
I've searched all the threads and was wondering if bolted-on 4.8 exhaust tips were available for 4.4 mufflers. I'm not too keen on having to cut and then weld-on the tips (as most threads suggest) should I want to return the car back to stock.
Below are some tips that I'm considering, however they are also recommending the weld-on approach. Attachment 31620 Attachment 31626 Any insight is much appreciated. |
if you dont cut and weld you will never have a pair of 4.8 tips. thats how it works....how bad do you want them

I like 'em - where are you sourcing them from?

BTW .. you can try and knock off the stock tips. I think they're just pressure-held not actually welded. You'll probably have to remove the muffler assembly though to work on it. Then you can just try and bolt-on whatever tip BUT no guarantee that the tips won't be sticking out a little more than you'd like. Maybe worth a try though. |

[quote=TwinsPoppa]How would you just bolt-on any tip? Doesn't your exhaust tips now have a turn down?!
quote] As far as I know, my 4.4 muffler tips are straight and not turned down (see below). I would imagine I could just bolt them on like the OEM tailpipe trims for the 4.4's.:dunno: Attachment 31632 |

If I do decide to weld-on the tips I'll probably go with the 4.8 look-a-like tips. I'm not too crazy of the ACS tips. |
both sets shown in the pictures are bolt on. i would go with the bottom set. they are a lot nicer plus they have the two inlet to two outlet like you need. i had the ones on top and sent them back 5 mins after i got them. they are to big a bulky looking. i was lucky enough to get a set of 4 black chrome exhaust tips from a 4.4 and i put 2 tips on my 2006 3.0. it looks really nice because my x5 is black. but if i were you i would deffinitly go with the bottom set, at least theres some shape to it.
by the way nice x5's guys. |

I can help you here as I've already done it. I have the ACS tip and you have to cut your tips because they are too long to weld the new ones and although you see the new ones come with bolts they do not fit...they have to be welded because both ends (the new tip's inlet and the X's outlet) have the same diameter. As for the ACS tip...they look nicer in the pictures than they realy are, I'm not crazy about them but until I find something better or the original ACS at a better price, they're staying on. Good luck!
