Throttle Body Spacer
 

So i was on the aFe website looking for a replacement cone filter for my afe cai, when i noticed they now carry throttle body spacers. they cost $186.. which is not bad if it improved the X's performance somewhat.

So since I know little about these, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was worth the price. Will it yield any performance gains? or should i save my $186. i did a quick search on the forum but found a result or two on 4.8's .. so there might not be many members who have put them on..

but its 799 + 399 for the software! it looks great, but extremely pricey..

I ain't rich enough to buy the cheap stuff...

I would love to know how creating turbulent flow into the inlet manifold plenum, way before the air is mixed with the fuel would improve mixture. This may have worked on an old carburettor engine but not on a modern multi-point injected engine.

I agree... but for some reason this type of thing seems to work. I've watched a friend of mine put his MPFI chevy S-10 (4 banger POS) on a dyno, make 3 runs... add a "tornado" right after the air filter (cold air intake) then make 3 more runs, gained 7 HP to the rear wheels.

I would be curious to do the same test with the X5 putting it right after the MAF sensor, but that shop doesn't have a 4 wheel dyno. (although there is one around here)

that isn't 'cheap stuff'. its two different products, on two different levels. The dinan option is a 'high flow throttle body' and is dyno-tested, higher quality, well-known, probably yields maximum HP gain, etc..

the aFe option is just a simple 'throttle body spacer' as the name states, , which may yield gains, not extremely high though. this thread is to try and inquire if the gains are significant enough to go with that option, or if its better off to leave it.

i actually would love to know as well. i don't know much about the how.. which is also why i started this thread. i have a friend who put a throttle body spacer on and claims feeling a difference; i just wanted to hear BMW owner's thoughts.
