Wow!! diyanich, would you kindly translate into English my first topic to make it understandable
Please note that in summer time when outside temp is about 40 C (100F).
it works the same.
И это пипец как тяжко когда я сажусь в машину нагретую солнцем в жаркий день и еду минут 10-15 без кондера, хотя кнопка нажата, а как только сработает то все работает отлично!

diyanich 04-05-2009 10:33 AM

ok.here it goes,it's not in Greek,it's in Russian:D and as he asked me to translate..I am gonna to.
It seems that no mater external temperature cold or really hot his Xs' A/C starts to cool down the cabin after X was already running for at least 10-15 minutes,he claims that A/C button is on and the clutch is engaged, but there's no load on the engine( you know what it means, when A/C starts to pump engine chokes for a second and after get s back to revs)
So,I read in the russian forum and he was saying that it was a coolant leak on wetting the Auxiliary Electric Fan's switch on the lower radiator hose or something like that, also he said that when he removes the connector from that switch Aux Ele Fan goes to spin like a crazy,it stops when connector is placed back.
So,they where trying to recharge the system....check the pressure...and so on,but for instance even a compressor's clutch quit to engage when he was pressing the A/C button, although slightly later it was acting as usual...
So what do you think, cause Russian forum didn't seem to help since they like us in Canada don't have much time to use A/C,but the Albert100 lives in the southern part of former Soviet Union,so A/C is a huge relief when it's +40 C (100 F) outside, same as for you guys, who live in the southern States.

i had this same problem with my 325ci i would turn on the ac and only would work after a few miles on the car and at driving speed. then i had it checked and they pulled all the old stuff out and added the ammount it needed . it worked for a few hours and the prv went off blowing all the new freon out. and i was back to the same non working ac. after some looking into it we found that the ac clutch was bad and it was not cooling it down and the press got to high in the ac and pop the prv. so we changed the clutch and it has worked fine ever sence. so i dont know if this will be the same for the x5 but it might help in your quest to fix the ac

diyanich 04-05-2009 11:24 AM

Well,I guess it could be the Cause.BTW I am not sure, but they all might use the same compressor, may be not,but I wouldn't be surprised. Also he lives in the Hot environment so compressor should be worn out,I think he mentioned his X is 2003 or so,so imagine 8-9 months a year with the A/C on should make it's job.

Albert100 04-06-2009 12:53 AM

Thanks a lot diyanich!!!
Probably I have the same problem as Rabbit but how can I check it?
My X5 is only one year in my country so I don't think that the problem is in old age of compressor.
And it's only 2-3 months with A/C on :)

PS: I guess that problem can be in clutch as...

pop your hood. spin the fan with you hand. at first mine was tight and after about 30 sec of spinning it realeased and spun like it was free. that is the problem if it spins freely its not working like it should. it should have some tension to it. as the engine spins it will spin the fan. it the clutch it bad it will not spin the fan at the speed it reguiers to cool your a/c down. it will look like its spinning but the air in not flowing good.

it will not over heat your car because of the aux fan. but it is not connected to the a/c in any way. only to the temp of the car.

Rabbit 04-06-2009 01:15 AM

more.. the fan cluch has oil inside it. when you firt start your car the oil in the fan clutch it cold. the vescosity of it is low ( thickness) as you spin the cluch ( by hand or driving) it heats up the oil and it gets thin. that is what's making your clutch not work. when they go out it spins freely when hot. it should not do that.

If yes so I changed to new one few months ago so it was good now.

Albert100 04-06-2009 05:59 AM

you can see the hole on fan baffle due to clutch...
