Extended Warranty

i just hit 48,000 miles and im looking to get an extended warranty. since i am the second owner bmw said i can only get a service warranty that only covers services, like breaks, oild changes, rotors, and belts. is this true has anyone else been told this? so i want to get a warranty that covers everything. do you guys have any suggestions. i never bought an extended warranty before, all my previous cars came with existing warranties from the dealers. i would want something like 5 years/50k miles. i have a 2006 X5 3.0i, like i said before i am the second owner and i have 48,000 miles. thanks for the help.

I just bought an '05 with 40k. I turned down the extended service warranty but did extend the drivetrain warranty for 6yr/60k which takes me up to 100k.

Not sure what's going on with your situation but it doesn't sound right to me..

Please do a search on warranty and you will see MANY similar threads in here even in the last couple of weeks.

I was in your boat a couple of months ago and decided to not go with any warranty at all, after doing some research on various warranty providers and seeing what is covered and what is not, and the current state of economy where insurance companies (most of the warranty providers) are going out of business or under pressure to change their ways.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

General Electric is the underwriter and is often available at the bmw dealers

You can get an aftermarket warranty which covers engine and transmission too, they even allow you to go to BMW themselves.

I just purchased a 2006 X5 with 38K miles. I also purchased the Extended Maintenance plan with it. A break job can/will be expensive. If you haven't had one yet, you are probably due here soon. Mine were done at 36K. This plan covers me till 2012 or 100K. Either way, I think it was a good deal. If you decide to go with an Extended Warrenty ( different from Extended maintenance ) go by the BMW dealership and ask then for suggestions. They know which ones are good and which ones are not.

if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for the extended maintenance plan. my local STEALERR wants $2600.00 just for the maintenance plan. that seems a bit to high. i had my breaks done about a month ago. any contact info with prices would really be appreciated. thanks for your help guys
