Please look at this carfax report for me

I am looking for a 2004 or 2005 X5 for under $25K. I found this one locally and it showed a Carfax report. The first thing I noticed is while being listed as a 1 owner car, it shows auctioned at 10K. Seems strange. Are there any other red flags here?

the car couldve been Repo'd by the bank and sold at an auction, i usually stay away from repos due to people that cant pay for their BMW, porbably cant maintain them as well.

It has a service record after the auction so I don't see the problem.

It could have also been a dealer loaner, not sure if the dealer who buys it puts their info. on carfax, although its not listed as a rental on carfax.

Thanks guys. I can see a dealer holding it until 10K because it is a loaner or demo, but why then auctioned? Why not a retail sale?
It also sales it started in the Pacific region, but suddenly it was in New York. I have heard of cars being totaled, auctioned, fixed and titled in another state to clean the title.
We had a tornado here a few years back and I recall a dealer had over 50 cars totaled. I wonder how many made it back into regular use, and how many owners knew about it.
I don't like buying from small independent car dealers, but most BMW dealers around here only have 3 year old cars or less.

It is a felony to sell a car that had been totalled and repaired without notifying the buying party, so I wouldn't worry all too much about that.

My dealer only carries a small amount of used cars, and when the used stock is full they send everything to auction. Whether it be trade in, lease return, etc. What I believe that car to be is a dealer demo car that when got to 10,000 miles went to wholesale auction. And they can and do go cross country for auction quite often. Most of our cars that go to auction from the New Orleans area end up in Houston or Atlanta.

I agree with the guys above, you obviously haven't seen too many carfax reports from vehicles listed on ebay. I've seen some that have been sold at auction numbers of times. It's pretty common and not a deal breaker IMHO.

this really isn't an issue with BMW now or in recent years with the free maintenance program. Nothing wrong with a Repo car that checks out and drives well.
