programming individual setting to individual keys?

I read in the manual that you can set different setting for EACH key you use for the BMW (ie. my seat, steering wheel and mirrors for my key, and my dad sets a different setting for his key) and when i enter into the car with my key, it automatically switches to my settings and when he gets in the car with his key it switches to his...??

the only way im able to do it now is buy pressing the 1, 2, or 3 settings on the chair. but i want it to automatically move when a differewnt key is used?

I know that, but that's to program a key that isn't working period, all of my keys communicate with the car, they just don't change to their apporopriate setting re seat mirrors wheel when used.

I'm assuming you don't share keys. As I understand it, the key remembers the last seat/mirror position setting when it was last used. Had the same problem when my daughter used the X with 'my' key. I had to select 'my' seat memory position "1" with my key in the ignition before shutting down the car.

If that still doesn't not work for you then something is indeed wrong.

The 2003 Manual page 50 Spells out the process.
You can store and call up three different
seat, exterior mirror and steering wheel
positions. The illustration shows the
buttons on the seat for making these
position adjustments. The adjustment of the lumbar
support is not stored in the memory.<

To store
1. Turn the ignition key to position 1 or 2

2. Adjust the desired positions for the
seat, exterior mirror and steering wheel

3. Press the MEMORY button: the indicator
lamp in the button comes on

4. Press memory button 1, 2 or 3, as
desired: the indicator lamp goes out.
To call up a stored setting
Do not call up a position from the
memory while the vehicle is
moving. There is a risk of accident from
unexpected movement of the seat or
steering wheel.

Convenience function:

1. Open the driver's door after
unlocking the vehicle or place the
ignition key in position 1

2. Briefly press memory button 1, 2
or 3, as desired.

Movement stops immediately when
one of the seat-adjustment or
memory buttons is activated during
the adjustment process.
Security function:

1. With the driver's door closed and the
ignition key either removed or in
position 0 or 2

2. Maintain pressure on the desired
memory button 1, 2 or 3 until the
adjustment process is completed.

If you press the MEMORY button
accidentally: press the button a
second time —

the indicator lamp goes out After setting the first key lock the Vehicle. Next, Open the vehicle with the second key and reprogram the seats with it. Now lock the vehicle again. Re-open with the first key and the seat should resume the first position and visa versa. I may be mistaken but i believe this process is dependent on locking the vehicle after the
programing of each key.

I'm no expert.... but when I asked the local dealership the same question. The explained it as something they had to do. Go figure... and don't know that it is true.

in all honesty, BMW is the worst stealerships to deal with, i spent hours on the phone just for my service records..

and everything they do, they fully rape you....

ive had infinitis and Audis before and never dealt with such BS.

After a week with the car im still trying to figure out how to turn on the rain sensing wipers and program the keys
