Fixing My Exhaust Tip Issue
 

so after getting my custom exhaust system, everything came out perfect except the tips; they are sticking out way too much making them look cheap (when i spent 100 a side for em ).

so now i'm in the process of getting this issue repaired and I have two options.
1. cut from the inside to bring the current tips in about an inch or two, hopefully resolving the issue
2. going with 4.6 tips (which i should have done from the beginning)


if i choose option one, i won't need to spend extra $$ on tips.

if i choose option two, it will cost a bit, but i don't mind because i can sell the old ones. (i think i am choosing option two if i can resolve the issue below)

so here is the issue, what is the best way to get these tips on? i did some searching and this seems like the best way,

but i am concerned about rusting, as well as i would prefer not to be able to see the extensions within the tips.

so is this the best way/most secure to get the 4.6 tips on?

or to avoid seeing the extensions can i custom make a bezel around the edges of the extension tips and weld the bezel to the 4.6 tips?

There is an OEM bezel already and it is very cheap

since my exhaust is single and not dual, i need something to weld onto the 4.6 tips.

how did you weld your tips on?

OK, I got you now ...

I have the dual exhaust as shown on the pic and actually I bought the car with the tips ... I did not see the welding process

The stook 4.6/4.8 tips have dual pipes so no biggie about seeing them inside the tips. You can also paint them black which in that link the guy only painted the INSIDE of the Y-pipe not the outside. I think that and will make a difference as well as not leaving so much Y-pipe length (too long).

I would measure your exisitng tips to see if the 4.6/4.8 tips would even slip over them first. Unles you're thinking about ditching them totally. If they just clear the 4.6/4.8 tips then jsut weld them on. Or go to your exhaust guy or whoever is gonna do the work and ask him how much to add a back plate. If it's too much, I'd skip it.

Of course, if all of this is gonna be "too much" then I guess you're gonna just shorten the tips. :D

As far as the rusting, you can spray some protective coating on it to help out but I doubt its gonna rust in your life-time - but who knows. Don't they makethe dang things in SS?

ya they wont fit over my current tips.

as for rusting the one in the link wasn't SS but i guess i could find some. i think im going to end up following that link, but i was wondering if a bezel would hold it on sturdier. because if i go with whats in the link i think they just get 'tacked' on. supposedly it will still be secure but i don't know..

Anyone else out there who put these tips on single piped exhausts?

i have mine for a year and a half now, sure there is some rusting but no biggie to worry about... very sturdy...

did you paint the extensions? if so what paint did you use/how much did it cost

I would just use a durable flat black inside the tips to help hide the pipes. Maybe the high heat engine paint or BBQ pit paint would probably do good.
