My New X5 4.6 pics and vids, Also some Questions

Hey Everyone,

I did already start a post that I had bought an X5 4.6. I had it shipped from Florida and purchased the car on the internet, only saw pictures and talked to the seller. Shipping was an issue, but I finally got the X5.

I will also confess up front that I am a mod junkie and stock just isn't god enough. Don't worry as everything I do is in taste and most likely has some performance benefit. In fact I have had the car all of 3 days and already have installed the K&N Panel filter, soon to be a Dinan intake and some all weather floor mats that a bought from a member here.

Just got the car registered, personal plate, paid the sales tax :yikes: , and got it smogged.

I am posting some pics for comments and a couple of video's that maybe a few of you technical guys can help out with. OK enough talk.

Now for the videos with questions. This video is of the engine at idle. To me it sounds like something is out of adjustment, maybe its normal, but my 745 doesn't make this noise at idle.

This video is of the exhaust. Its all stock, but it sounds sick to me, not sick in a good way. Does this sound normal?

Next mod is the xpipe. This will be going on later this week. I do plan on taking it to my local indy dealer this week as well and just have them look it over. Any suggestions on what to look for in a good indy dealer?

Thanks guys and girls for any feedback. I look forward to learning and sharing here in the X5world.

Great shots. You have in my opinion the best interior released on any X5, ever.

Nice looking ride. Love the dark grey interior. Are those 87's in 19" ??

Now I'm no mechanic but both the engine and exhaust just doesn't sound right. You need someone like Weasel, JCL etc to pass a more informed comment.

You're a braver man than me, 'cause I couldn't buy an X5 over the internet after just looking at pics. Couldn't you have got an independant inspection done by a nationally/multi state recognised organisation before actually purchasing ??

I hope the above issues aren't big ticket items.

Good luck and safe driving

Welcome to the forum. Where in socal are you located? We're trying to round up some X5 guys for a caravan to bimmerfest this year. let me know if you're interested.

BTW, the knocking sound is similar to my M62TU in my 740i. Not sure if its that loud, but it does sound familiar. Maybe I have an issue too? LOL.

The exhaust sounded ok at first, but then that flapping noise doesn't sound right. Better wait for the techs to respond to this one.

BTW, if you are local Riverside area then I know a BMW tech that can do side jobs for you if you are interested.

Oh, and at least you got a free tow hitch! :)

Nice looking ride! I'm no mechanic but it sounds like the engine is misfiring. Are there any check engine lights on? I just had a similar sound in mine when my CEL came on, and it happened to be the MAF and a cam position sensor and it came right back to life with those easy repairs.

BTW - what's that in the garage? I see a 745 and a 4.6 Mustang GT vert??

Thats what I thought it sounded like to me as well, misfiring. No CEL and seems to be plenty of power.

Its an 04 745Li and 97 cobra vert. :D What you don't see is my 85 Rx7 turbo, which is just waiting to be tuned and should be good for 350 RWP in a 2600 lb car. :wow:
