Headlights
I just picked up a 02' 4.4i. I have read through the posts but it is still unclear to me what exactly I need or need to buy to make these lights. I understand how to make them, I just wanted to see what would be best recommended for the type of bulb I should use for the lows and highs, where I can buy quality halo's (best bang for your buck), and what I can do to best match the fog lights to the headlights (even just a bulb change). Preferably in blue. Basically the parts needed, but I don't know anything about the quality of the brands that sell them.
A concern of mine is that the right headlight was replaced before I bought it. The left one has some very noticeable road rash on the lens. I saw that they sell replacement lenses for the 3 series but do they sell them for the X's? I appreciate any help you guys have. Thanks |
If you want a new lens for your headlight, you have to buy a new headlight. What you can do is go to autozone, They have a nice kit that I used made by turtle wax that has all the sand paper and chemicals to restore headlights. Follow the instructions and use a high speed buffer with the lens restorer. Works great.
About the angel eyes, You can buy ccfls from ebay eBay Motors: 99 00 01 02 03 BMW X5 E53 7000K CCFL HALO HEADLIGHTS (item 160329177586 end time Apr-22-09 15:04:11 PDT) Other people may know something better. |
Or these: BMW E53 X5 7000K White CCFL Angel Eyes Kit 2000-2002 CarGym.com
I have them. Looks great and works great. Also the company has good support. |
Also make sure that your replaced headlight is not manufactured in 2003. If it is, then you cannot open it and will have to buy new headlights made by depo or sonar

headlights
if your lights are manufactured before 10/02 it is possible to open lenses, if they are made after that bmw used different sealant which is impossible to open. check thread on how to open lights in home page. look on the back of headlight and you will see a small dial imprinted in the plastic. the two numbers in the middle stand for the year and the number on the outside with arrow pointing to it is the month of manufacture. let me know how you go. matt

Every is saying that the post Aug. 08 lights are impossible to crack open. It looks as if the previous owner replaced the right headlight, unless the left one has just gotten hit with that much more road grime. I haven't pulled them off to look at the date yet.
My question is, why can't I just dremel or saw it open at the glue, install the rings and either use new glue to seal them back up or plastic weld them back together. It seems opening them like that would work just fine. is there some other reason that no one has done this? |
can someone tell me where I can find the absolutely cheapest headlights for an 02. I just need the shape because all I want is the lens
