x5 4.6is advice for uk buyer
 

does anyone know what common problems to watch out for on 4.6is x5 2002 ..with 70000 miles on clock.car i am looking at has had a full engine rebuild by bmw due to timing chain ..this is gaurranteed for another 12 months..is timing chain /tensioners a common problem
car also has 12 months independant warranty on parts and labour and 3 mot test gaurrantees ( basicly if car fails mot test on anything except tyres exhaust and brakes its covered for 3 years)

i bought a 2002 4.4i sport 44,000 miles , now 54,000 and £5,000 poorer due to repairs.

can you tell me what repairs did it need ....this has had full engine dismantle /reassemble at bmw cost 11000 pounds new water pump 900 pounds and 4 new tyres 1000 pounds warranty cost the guy 800 pounds

1) both left door lock actuators
2) mid pixel
3)front left wheel speed sensor
4) valley pan coolant leak
5)entire crankcase vent and vacuum system
6)handbrake ratchet worn
7)final stage resistor
8)battery
9)4 rear subframe mounts(axle bushes )
10)camshaft cover gasket ( left side only leaking )
11) 4 tyres splitting
12 )crap brake pads fitted so got binned .
13) all doors leaking water
14)window washer reservior filters clogged by slime

how much is it selling for , has service book been fully stamped by bmw service .
what was problem with timing chain . repair sounds like bullshit because you can have brand new bmw engine fitted for that money , i got one in my 740i for £9300 3 years ago .

yes car full bmw service history ,ive rang dealership and they confirmed the work done ..the engine is under warranty from dealership until 2010 ,unsure if chain snapped or jumped ..2 owners ..also has 12 months independant warranty,water pump changed recently on this warranty for 900quid ..

i had 150 pound deposit on it went down on train guy drove it hard showing off which put me off a bit so decided to wait and see nice looking car everything on but i dont want to buy a money pit..
would you have another x5

no i will not buy another x5 and probably not another bmw .
i feel the same about land rover but may buy another
i had toyota land cruiser amazon and would be very cautious if buying used .
and you would be buying a money pit x5.

2002 on 52 with 70k on clock 2 owners very clean brand new tyres etc etc needs insp 1 ....£11500 pounds including desireable private plate and warranty...if any one reading this has anything good to say about 4.6is please let me know

i don`t think they are all nightmares so take a chance if you want
like i said about engine , sounds like bullshit to me
wait and see what others say when they chime in on this thread .
