New Tail Lights?
 

If I buy a set of LED tail lights on Ebay will the left side still be dark? Its barely on......

i think that the flash on the camera was on sooo it dimmed the lights

Odds are you have the infamous burnt contact at the bulb holder to tail light board contact point. So the answer would not only be no as they would light up perfectly fine as new, but you also have the perfect excuse to get them if that is indeed your problem. :thumbup:

I have been looking for pics of the smoked out LED lights on a blk X5 but cant find anyone whom has it.......

search the forum. i think essam has a thread in which someone posted smoked LED tails..

Anton, i think the Red Smoke is better...

i just saw a black e53 this morning with smoked red taillights and i love it... his headlights were also tinted... im gonna ask him next time i see him at my son's school...

+2 on red smoke ..

If you go smoked...make sure that you go smoked on all your lights....keep that theme.....smoked tails will call for at least smoked side markers and some sort of light smoke on the heads.....

Both sets appeared to be red smoked. However, the first set (Sprinter Power) doesn't look like they're LEDs :dunno:

I bought a 2nd (Sonar) in your link but clear not smoked...they will be delivered today and hopefully I will install them today too. Will try to post some pictures before & after.:thumbup:

Once you get the wiring sorted out I'll be curious to see if you think they are bright enough during the day when you hit the brakes for people to see them...

I installed the lights but they flicker allot so I am sending them back for a full refund from Zomk...

I want to try GT-Racers now maybe their lights will work on my 03 :dunno:

Sending Zomk's light back for a refund. The guy told me that he cannot guarantee that a replacement will work fine so I decided just to return them.

Also, I just ordered another pair but from GT-Racers website. They are also Sonar lights. Hopefully I will have more luck with them, if not I might try a resistor but I really dont want to put something in my trunk that generates allot of heat...

i just ordered my LED tails from Zomkspeed too... their real business name is unionracers?? strange... anyhow hopefully i don;t have the same flicker problem as i have a 2000 X5 4.4i

I hear the flickering only happens on '03 and up models.......

I got this lights from the third link you got there two weeks ago. The wiring was all wrong and nothing worked. I tested it and realized I had to rotate the wires (right wires go to left side, left wires go to right side) everything works good now and it looks amazing. I love the way it looks, i just thought the led ones might look too after marketish.
I took the picture with my iphone so its not the greatest pic.

how'd ya know to rewire the configuration?

I matched the wire colors coming from the car and the ones behind the lights. its really easy. The way it was working first was my signal was changed to break light, so when i push my breaks, the signal bulb would turn on, thats how i realized they must have been installed on the wrong side. simply took them out switched them around and all was good.

Those tails from Sprinter are not LED - if you look closely, they have sockets to insert bulbs. I recently looked at the tails on eBay and liked the look of the Sprinters (may have been another vendor), but the description did not say "LED"

Not Yet...

Yesterday received a return label to send "Zomk's lights" back & today I am getting "GT-Racers" Led Lights. They suppose to be Sonar lights. Hopefully I will have more luck with them - if not I will keep the old lights and move to the next mod - OEM "running boards" :thumbup:

Will let you know as soon as I try the new lights. Hopefully today.

Capacitors he provided worked like a charm- no more flickering on my 03 4.4
The lights actually look brighter now at idle. Awesome job and it took only 10-15 min to install them. Anyone considering these - do not hesitate, Led Lights look great:thumbup::D

Think of it like a little battery.

It basically stores energy and makes the LED tails operate as they should instantaneously, not flickering, or pulsing.

Just thought I'd mention I installed the Zomk LED tail lights (which had a SONAR stamp on them, so they are the same?) and they work great on my 2001. Very nice. I'd love to get a LED turn signal bulb, but that will require resistors and I'm not interested in doing that right now. I did use a Solaris bulb from Bimmian.com and they work well for the turn signals.

Very nice mod, and for the price, the tail lights are good quality. We'll see if they last a few years...I always have the OEMs as spares :)
