LED side mirror bulbs
I purchased a pair of t10 bulbs for the side mirrors. i put the drivers side bulb in and it will work as long as the halogen bulb is in the passenger side mirror. If i put the led bulb in the passenger side mirror neither led bulb will work....just a quick flicker when they should stay on. I blew the 5 amp fuse for the mirrors... what is going on? How can I get these bulbs to stay on?

do all X5's have these bulbs? i dont think mine does, can they be turned off? i have an 06 3.0 thanks
|
im not sure if all x5s have them. why would you want to turn them off? weird

I had the same issue and still did not figure it out
Now, i only have one LED on the driver side and the other one is stock one You know LEDs are sensitive to polarity. Try to reverse them in all possibilities and see. I will try to solve it when I have some time. |

When I got mine, I got the higher voltage LED bulbs, assuming that it would be better to get higher to become closer to the factory voltage. Maybe the line to feed the mirror lights require a certain amount of power to them, and if you cause too much of a difference, the circuit shuts off. Which ones did you purchase? |
i purchased t10 led bulbs. 1w. can I put resistors on them. why does the drivers side work only with the stock bulb in the other side? weird
|
i just emailed the seller and see what he says.

try to do just passenger side swap, keeping left stock? link to the bulb online? anybody else on the board use it? |
i just tried some resistors but they didnt work. i have to keep experimenting
|
i have same problem
|

See the little white circle on the right underside of the mirror. Looks like this only on an X5, they're much smaller. |
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I did the swap today and ended up with the same problem, though due to the help of a friend who's an electronics whiz, I fixed it.
Solution 1 (preferred): Go to Radio Shack and grab a package of two 10 watt 50 ohm resistors. Wire them in parallel to the mirror light wiring (you can do it on one side and it'll work fine), tape it all up, mount them, and call it a day. Before putting it back together, keep the lights on for a minute or so and make sure that your resistors do not get too hot. I used big ceramic ones and they got to maybe 130-140 degrees after 4 cycles (the lights are never on long so I don't care), so I mounted them. Solution 2 (this way is unreliable): You can get the bulbs in this thread here (194 168 W5W 2825Supernova Bulbs With Metal Heat Sink), however, I have used these bulbs and their reliability is nothing short of horrible. They will burn out within a month or two. I am much happier with the reliability of the ones that I have purchased from Superbright LEDs, and personally, I would stick with option 1 if you don't want any headaches. |
