How to get mp3 playback?
 

hi all i'm sure this is covered somewhere but i can't seem to find it, anyways.. here we go... i have a 2000 4.4i X5 with 6 disc Cd changer with DSP and NAV, is it as simple as just upgrading the disc changer to get mp3 playback? or is there that needs to be done? Currently it does play burnt cd's such as cd-r/cd-rw copies but once i throw mp3 files on there it does nothing.

Any help is much appreciated, i'm getting the mod bug and have ordered about $1K in accessories just this week.... i want to keep it rolling so i can feed this itch! Thanks guys!

you need to get an mp3 changer your cd changer is not going to read mp3's. all you have to do is unplug your cd changer and plug in the new mp3 changer and thats it your done. search ebay for bmw mp3 changer.

Thanks alot for that! will be doing that as we speak... (@ work) lol... with the recession at hand, gives me more time to mod cause work has been slow.. but it definitely hurts the wallet... well the modding must go on!!

is there a specific model or build date that supports mp3 playback? it seems like there's huge range in price for these changers... i had a 2004 325i when i bought it did not support mp3, (in dash) had advised the service repair guy at Brian Jessel and he swaped it out for one that did support it, looks identical...
i wonder if that's the same with the 6 cd changers, could just be same part# but with a different build date?

they all look the same, just one playes mp3's and the other doesnt. if you do a search all the info on cd changers and mp3 changers will come up. here if the price is good for you go with this one. i have delt with him in the past and he went as far as calling me to help me figure something out. he ships really fast and you wont be dissapointed, heres the link:
