DVD Player

I have an X5 2002 4.4i with 16/9 screen, TV Tuner and DSP but no navigation (euro specs).

I would like to add (or retrofit) a DVD player to be able to watch movies, i know i would need a TV In motion module to be able to watch it while the car is moving.

But my questions are:

1- what is the best option for the dvd player (the most plug & play)

2- how do i hook it up for the audio sound (DSP?)

3- anything else I should take into consideration?

Thanks for any input..

Ghani

Hi Ghani, :welcome: to X5world.

What I recommend is the TVonNav Module and the AV connection cable. See http://tvonnav.com/bmwmodule.html for both components.

The Module does 2 things for you. One is it allows you to have video in motion. The other is it allows you to pipe the audio into the BMW AUX input to give you stereo sound through your DSP audio system.

As for a DVD player, there are tons of them out there from many different manufacturers. Get be sure to get one that is from a name brand company. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=30 for my installation example.

:goodluck:

hello UCrewX5,

thanks for the quick reply but i still have a few questions:

1- ideally i would prefer a DVD player that fits in the rear compartment next to the cd changer

2- can i have it to be controlled by the oem X5 audio controls, like a cd changer?

3- isn't it the same as the navigation dvd player?

4- do i have to have the BMW AUX kit for the tv in motion module to work?

Thanks for all the answers you can give...

1. You can mount the DVD player anywhere you like. It would actually be easier to mount it back where the CD changer is located versus where I mounted mine. I chose to put mine where I did for ease of access in changing the DVD.

2. In theory, yes. But you would need some sort of interface adaptor that intercepts the i-bus signals transmitted from the steering wheel buttons and translates it into signals that can be used by the DVD player. I'm not aware of one that exists, but that doesn't mean you can't find or build one.

3. No :tsk:

4. No. You only need AUX if you want to have the DVD audio in stereo. Otherwise your sound will be mono.

Look at ncx's setup . He mounted his DVD player in the BMW First Aid box, right under seat. This way you can change DVDs on the go.

Round 3:

1- if i install the BMW AUX kit where does it fit glovebox or rear compartment?

2- if it is in the glovebox, can you have the DVD changer in the back?

3- if i install a DVD changer in the back, it should be easer for the wiring?

4- how can i control the DVD changer with factory headunit?

5- where is the wiring for the tv in motion module located?

sorry for the questions, but i would really like to have the complete picture before starting any mods..

Thanks for the help...

1. It can be mounted either location. I mounted mine in the rear

2. Yes, but you would obviously need to run wires from the front to the back to make this work

3. Yes, definately

4. As previously indicated, you would need some sort of interface adaptor that intercepts the i-bus signals transmitted from the steering wheel buttons or head unit and translates it into signals that can be used by the DVD player. I'm not aware of one that exists, but that doesn't mean you can't find or build one.

If you look at my install, I used the remote control that came with the DVD player to operate it and the sensor is located in the ashtray.

5. It connects in-line to the wiring to the video module (which is located down in the spare tire compartment behind the battery).

1. There are several DVD changers on this list that can be remote controlled. I'm sure there are others out there as well. http://electronics.search.ebay.com/d...ofocusZunknown

2. Check the fuse panel that is in the right rear compartment.

Dear Jeff,

do you think this one will do

http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/stock01/kdvc820.asp

as it is available for me to buy.

How can you control it with the remote control if it is installed in the back ?

Ghani
