BMW Temporary Window Regulator Fix

Had a window regulator fail this weekend and had to purchase the BMW OEM temporary window regulator fix while waiting on my new regulator to arrive. Works great in keeping the window closed to keep rain out of the interior. Install pic:

That's hilarious!!!

FSETH 05-10-2009 09:21 PM

Is that pressure treated?

X5Dawg 05-10-2009 09:26 PM

Yes, just in case the window leaks a little.

Also preserves it for future failures

Is it possible you have something else going on? When mine gave out it was one loud pop and a window drop like with Dawg. No warning at all and no issues with previous noises. Just wondering. :dunno:

Mine has been cracking and popping for quite a while now. When I opened up everything the cable that raises and lowers the window was all over the place.

I thought it might be something else (i've had the one loud pop and the windows drop on the 2 rear windows) but my front ones just seem to be slowly dying..i want to change em out now to avoid them going out in the rain.. but I have never taken the door panel off and don't wana mess with it.

I was going to ask the dealer how much they charge when I went to check out what they wanted to do for my 100k service. I'm thinking of doing the spark plugs on my own. any idea how much a dealer would charge for regulators? OR anyone going to the meet that wants to do it for a better price than dealers :D

I had my rear passenger regulator done last December, but couldn't find the invoice. It was done under warranty. Sounds like you may be right on your diagnosis accordind to Dawg's last post. I agree that I don't like to mess with regulators or any wondow issues in general either. It can be a pian for sure.

I am at nearly 100k and need to do the plugs as well. I am going to get the torque specs and do it DIY too. You get charged too much at the dealer for that and it really isn't that hard to do. Especially with access to sites like this and all the great advice.

Looks like a solid fix. I need one of those for my driver's side front window. My 4.6is arrived last Sunday, I drove it Monday, and after rolling the window down twice it stuck. Good times.

Interesting... The BMW window regulator kit looks a lot like the Mitsubishi ramp kit. :D

Brit6 05-11-2009 12:24 PM

Lol, it is a part number taking from something else if anyone is wondering ;)

The part number corresponds to a mirror. haha.

just FYI i was just at the dealer today and he said spark plugs are $124 w/o labor and if you do another service (like service inspection I or II which should be due around this time) the labor on spark plugs is free

What does your dealer charge for a serivce I or II? I wasn't aware that the plug replacement labor was included in that. Something doesn't sound quite right to me.

he might be messing around. he said it would be about 800-900 for inspection I with spark plugs. but the thing is i dont understand what in that service costs that much. they wana charge like over $60 for the cabin filter, which i can acquire and do myself, and i duno how much to inspect the brakes..and its all fuzzy to me. so until he gets me a list of exactly what is done and breaks down the pricing im not going to do it. what do you get charged for it?

(pssst.. i think we hijacked the thread)
