4.6 Tips + LED sidemarkers Installed

So I finally switched out my magnaflow tips (which were sticking out too much/not too appealing) to 4.6 tips (thanks jayjay04x5) and they look alot better. now I'm just debating whether or not to get the 4.6 exhaust plastic trim or leave it as is..:dunno:

I also got the Bimmian LED clear sidemarkers, which look WAY better than stock, and match my clear headlights. Very easy to install too.

Let me know what you guys think

Finaly some one got on the right track . LOL
Look greattttt.

askhao 05-14-2009 06:44 PM

how did you put the tips on? just fit it into the original?

X Foomph 05-14-2009 06:54 PM

Nice one mt, or should I say nice 2 mods.
BTW is the RHS tip a little off level or is it an optical illusion ?? Definately go with exhaust surround, finish em off nice n tidy.

simoncpw 05-14-2009 07:17 PM

Congrats, mtX5. Looks great!!!

mtX5 05-14-2009 09:58 PM

thanks guys!

mrbmwx5- now i just need a 4.6 kit and i'll be set. (then again it still looks nice as is)

askhao- they must be welded on

X Foomph- nice catch, they are a bit off. We decided to leave them a bit because, as you know, i have an aftermarket system. after driving a bit with the last tips, the tips started to become crooked. so we decided to wait for a week so that if they moved even more we could adjust them all at once.

next mods:

DICE kit on the way from Tom G.
possible subwoofer from BSW/JL/ or custom option
finally repair front passenger headlight because larger angel eye is not as bright as the rest (hopefully on the way next week? been waiting forever)

jst2878 05-14-2009 10:10 PM

looks great! now u just need the black plastic trim pieces that clip around the rear bumper trim and hollow out the exhaust tips

jayjay_dee 05-14-2009 10:12 PM

good job Mo, they look better... yeah, you definitely need to get those finishing trim, less than $20 for a pair i believe...
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Michelle 05-14-2009 10:26 PM

Looks great!!!!!

Definitely add the surrounds! Here's the DIY that includes the part numbers, too: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...st-mod-x5.html

mtX5 05-14-2009 10:32 PM

you guys really think that trim makes that much of a difference? i guess i'll try it out..according to the link michelle sent they're like $8 each soo not bad

Michelle 05-14-2009 10:51 PM

Absolutely. It'll finish the look.

did you put them on? because i used your thread here: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...t-my-tips.html as a reference for how far the tips should stick out, but didnt see the trim. got some pictures? the other link in this thread has the trim but has the tips sticking out further.

Michelle 05-15-2009 12:09 AM

I'm going to be getting rid of the X soon, so I stopped doing stuff to it. If my next ride is a 4.4i, I'll be adding the 4.8iS tips and putting on the trim pieces.

Hit Redline 05-15-2009 02:36 AM

Looks good. Man your 5 is shiny!!! In the 3rd pic I was trying to figure out what that lettering was on your bumper, it is the numbers painted in the parking spot ground reflecting in your bumper.

RichiRich 05-15-2009 06:22 AM

Moh!!

LED's look great! i'm on my second pair...first pair took in water....bought them back in 07'

2nd pair also caught some condensation...even with a lil silicone....

The Tips look excellent.....10X better than before!!

as for the trim pieces - I have them.....I have been giving away a ton of shit lately as my friend/neighbor just picked up 02 4.6 with 50K....

and some other lovely members here needed some goods....so since i'm in the giving spirit......I have the trim pieces....when I put my Sipersprint on I had to take those off.....you can have them.....

pm me your address...

Don't mail them...he's coming up for the Tri-State Meet.

RichiRich 05-15-2009 09:46 AM

Hey Michelle!

Great Point!

I will be a busy man.....have some mods lined up to do for others and looks like we'll be hookin Mo up with the goods.

Need to make some time for some shots! LOL!

Rich

RichiRich 05-15-2009 11:06 AM

disregard!! I have the wrong one......I apologize...

I just checked!!

Oh well!

Rich

mtX5 05-16-2009 01:28 AM

michelle- why are you getting rid of it?

hit redline- haha i was surprised it was that shiny too. the front isn't, its all chips :(

rich- i read somewhere about your codensation issue and when i bought them i put some silicone on them. i ran it through a car wash and so far so good. they should exchange them for you for free if they're leaking. and the headlight i'm getting is from Dave..I'll PM you with more info

Also, i was sure you had the same 3.0 trims as i did.. so i was wondering what you were offering. but nonetheless, thanks for the offer! if you really are in the giving spirit, if i decide to go for the LED tails wana help me install them at the meet?

RichiRich 05-16-2009 06:33 AM

Moh- I'd be happy to help you install....plug and play....get some invisibulbs for the signal lights....you may have them already in your current tails.... makes the look clean!

Rich

Essam Khafagi 05-16-2009 10:45 AM

Moh, you are on the right track man ...
rear LEDs, running boards, and 4.6 body kit then you will be exactly like me  (except what is under the hood :nanana:)

Get the trim for the tips it will look much better

mtX5 05-16-2009 10:57 AM

essam ill be getting the trim next week, im trusting you guys that it will look better haha. as for the LED tails.. i'm still thinking about whether or not to get them, but for $170 they really aren't too expensive.. and i'm sure i'll like them. I would just need help with the install as I have no idea how the tails are mounted or wired.

I think i won't be getting running boards..too expensive. as for the 4.6 kit i really want one maybe one will pop up used one day and i can get it at a steal. we'll see..

This is the easiest thing in the world ... only three bolts for each tail light piece (we have four pieces), and one plug in each piece, u remove it from the OEM and put it into the LED

As simple as that!

mtX5 05-16-2009 11:10 AM

ohh.. so i guess it is doable. the last thing i'm looking into are capacitors, which the member here LightWerkz said would make the LEDs brighter..

Essam Khafagi 05-16-2009 04:06 PM

capacitors are only needed for 2004-2006 models with adaptive brake lights ... he said "brighter" because they were flickering before he installed the capacitors ... I did not get any flicker or error code on my 02

My 7 is almost 12yrs old and has 136k on it....I should just turn it into a planter box in the backyard, huh

Of course, after spending almost 12k on the motor and another 4k on the diff, I won't be getting rid of her for a long time!

mtX5 06-07-2009 11:03 PM

LED tails coming monday or tuesday :D

so theres no DIY for the tail lights on the forum?

Yii 06-08-2009 02:21 AM

o0o man looks really nice mmmm so wanting that on my 3.0

mtX5 06-08-2009 05:53 PM

just got the LED tail lights in today. i began installing them when, of course, issues had to come up:

(tailgate parts installed with no problems)

1. left drivers side has a chip on it (not a big deal, can wait for replacement)
- it appeared to be flickering but then again theres too much sun out there too know for sure. i'll check again at night. if they still are i'm sure capacitors will fix that issue.

2. right passengers side tail light does not light up at ALL. NOTHING! one of the pins is half pushed in and the other is not even there. zomk speed is supposedly sending another set in 5 days.. we'll see.

Frustrating.

simonellis1971 06-09-2009 04:58 AM

Hi All,

This is my first post I've been reading up , great forum! , had my X5 for 2 weeks so far

I've just installed LED tail lights , I bought these (382's for the rear tail / brake light);

382 - 360 degree LED Extreme Power 5W - NEW! 382 LED Bulbs LED Bulbs 12V Autobulbs...

as they are 5w they do not require any resistors and come fitted with a heatsink at the end superb peice of kit, I'll now buy two more to replace the second set of tail lights.

It's very simple simple unclick the rear and plug in! no resistors required

I've also upgraded the spot lights to 55w H1's Ice blue, these give twice the light output and more closely match the factory HID's

H1 ABD Xenon Extreme White bulbs (pair) H1 Bulbs Upgrade Xenon Headlight Bulbs...

I now just need to change the Angel Eye bulbs to a Lighter / Blue effect or LED so will keep reading on!

Firstly,
Welcome to this great site. Secondly, could we see day and night time pics of these bulbs in action please?

Happy motoring

simonellis1971 06-09-2009 05:18 AM
