Oh No

So my car went in for a recall on the airbag sensors. It is a 01 3.0d sport. They call me after and tell me that the following need doing.

1) Front brakes and pads
2)Both left and right lower suspension arms
3)PAS Pressure hose leaking
4)Both driveshaft gaitors starting to look like there going.

They have quoted well over £1800 to do the lot. I would like to do some myself if possible. Is anything on the above lift not including the brakes an easy DIY

Cheers

looks all DIY possible, depending on your tools and ability, and how much you want to get into it. The suspension arms and hoses I would think is relatively "easy".

Here is a post on the CV's
http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...mw-x5-e53.html

It looks like a lot more work than honda, but maybe not to bad. ? (I'm a replace-the-axle instead of a repair-the-boot kind of person.)

The last visit they replaced the PS hoses for leaking (under warranty.) Really, they were not leaking, just damp he said. If yours is similar, maybe you don't really need to replace.

Dunno your dlr situation there, just outside London, but I would do one or two things:
I would ask another dlr for their opin, or more likely, find a good Independent and have
them appraise the "list". I assume the Indie's prices would be less than 1800 lbs. Whew!

Imo, dlrs are being squeezed and anytime they get a car on the rack it is time to pad the
Things to Fix List, hoping the customer will buckle.

JUST DONE BOTH BOTTOM ARMS ON FRONT OF MINE. LEFT SIDE INVOLVES REMOVING A COLD AIR INTAKE PIPE WHICH CAN BE TRICKY. OTHER THAN THAT PRETTY EASY TO DO. YOU WILL NEED A BALL JOINT SEPERATOR AND A GOOD HAMMER TO MAKE IT A BIT EASIER. PAS PIPE PRETTY EASY. BLEEDING SYSTEM WHILE YOUR THERE IS A GOOD IDEA. CV GAITORS ARE PRETTY EASY BUT YOU WILL NEED TIME IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE THEM BEFORE. :yikes: ON A POSITIVE AS YOU WILL HAVE THE ARMS OFF IT WILL BE EASIER. WHILE YOU ARE THERE I WOULD ADVISE CHANGING THE BALL JOINTS AS THESE OFTEN GO. THEN A GOOD OLD WHEEL ALIGNMENT BY A HUNTER 4 WHEEL JOB AND IT SHOULD BE AS GOOD AS NEW. :D
GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED
