14k worth of damage
Just got info on my 06 x5 damage......14k. Got hit on rear left tire by a taxi in NYC. needs new front bumper, rear bumper, 2 driver side doors and rims with new control arm, suspension on rear rear quarter and front quarter. (basically the wheel tilts in)...... is this considered totaled? its worth about 25k on kbb with 43k miles. Will the car run the same? It's at a reputable shop. What would you do? Anyone else in this situation? I'm going to keep the car, but I'm afraid that the car won't run the same....thoughts?

the rear quarter got hit and the paint job needs to be blended perfect. a lot more can be damaged that you might figure out in the near future. good luck with it

The shop should be able to get her back into specs, the only thing is to make sure the job is done fully proper to avoid problems like water leaks from panel seams. As long as the shop is good with BMWs it should be fine though. I've seen the body shop we use fix 60,000 worth of damage on an 08 M6 with no problems afterwards (that thing was smashed front and rear, convertable too)

did the owner actually keep that car after that?!?!?!

No $14K is not enough to total it. Insurance companies usually will do that when it gets above the 80% threshold of damage to value. What you can do is file a Diminished Value claim through their insurance. They give you a dollar amount of the difference of what it was worth pre-accident and then after. I would think in your case it's probably about $4K. If their insurance doesn't offer that try doing it on yours and subrogate against theirs.
