Is that code stored in the DME or EGS? What kind of tester did you use?

For problems with the trans failsafe it is good to have all the codes read with the GT1 tester as it not only gives you ALL the codes with full description, but guided test plans as well to help determin the root cause.

DME is the engine computer, EGS is the transmission computer. Unfortunately I don't know what that fault code is nor do I have a way to look it up.

With problems like that you need to have a proper diagnosis, if not by the dealer then atleast by a shop with the GT1 tester and good knowledge of BMW systems.

My 2001 4.4 had DSC, ABS, Check Engine warning lights on and got into Fail-Safe-Mode. I searched the forum and found that it could be ABS module (i.e. EBCD mentioned on this website: ModuleMaster rebuilds ABS modules for as low as $100, 2 day average turn-around, 5 Year Guarantee). I took the module off by following the steps on the web site, and shipped it to ModuleMaster as recommended by a forum member. Without the module, DSC, ABS, Check Engine Light remained on, but the car never entered into Fail-Safe-Mode. Got the re-built module back after a week. Put the module on, turned on the car, DSC, ABS warning lights were gone. After 40 miles or so, check-engine warning was gone, too. It has been 2 weeks and the car still runs great, no warning lights. I am not sure whether yours having the same problem as mine, but I was not sure when I set it to them. They claimed if the module was not the problem, all you have to pay is the cost of shipping it back to you. I thought that it was worth trying.
