Front RHD Passenger Door Won't Open

Ok well i went to open my passenger door today on my RHD E53 and when i lifted the handle i heard a flick and nothing opened, its like something has come off from behind the handle and it is pulling nothing when i try to open it.

I am still able to open my passenger door from the inside, it also unlocks and locks fine, but it just won't open from the outside.

Does anybody know what the problem may be, or how i can dismantle the passenger door?

So diagrams and information would be good?

Search for door handle carrier.

Moderately difficult DIY. You have to buy the new part and remove the old, which involves disassembling the door.

This is a common issue on the X5. The metal comprising these pieces is of very low quality and with a few years of use it fatigues and cracks.

thanks mark, so maybe i should just take the car down to the stealer

Depends on how motivated you are to fix it yourself. I bought some tools and fixed mine, took me about three hours going slowly and carefully, but saved myself about $300 USD. There's a DIY on this site and several threads on the subject.

do you think you would be able to post the DIY? thanks

because no my front driver door has stuffed up too.

DIY was already posted, if you search you can find it.

Using the word "Door" in the search field helps a lot

This happened to my drivers side last week, the day before I was to go on a long business trip with a partner. I had to bite the bullet and paid the st(d)ealer to do it. They charged me $102 for the outside door carrier part and $250 for labor. OUCH!

It would have been cool to get in the car Bo Duke style though.

Definitely worth doing yourself if you have the time.

Thanks for that, i have taken apart the passenger side door and removed the carrier, it was a fairly easy process, so now i just have to order the carrier for both the front doors :S
