questions about limp mode

I have a 2002 3.0 with 102K on it.

3 times in the last week, I've been sitting at a light waiting for it to turn green. When it does and I step on the gas there is an immediate loss in power, followed by the ABS light and the one right next to it in yellow with the triangle in yellow as well. If I shut it off and restart it runs fine but the abs light is still on ... if I park it and wait about 15-20 minutes its all good.

all 3 times it was around 90 degrees outside.

my check engine light is on all the time due to a leaky seal on the top of the gastank. I can clear it with an obb2 reader and it stays off for about 100 miles....

any ideas on the running and limp mode?

Limp Home Mode is what M-B calls it, in BMW world it's "transmission failsafe program." You're not in limp home mode though, if you were your dash would tell you, sounds like something else.

Ok let's clarify - are you getting "EML" ? It is a yellow light...it says EML. That is engine safety mode, or whatever you want to call it. If so, there are a variety of things that can cause that. EML clears itself when you shut off the car, unlike many other SES codes.

EML is not the same as trans failsafe...I have a manual trans, and therefore no trans failsafe mode...but I get EML occasionally.

Getting EML is usually accompanied by another code - check the codes just in case you have something on top of the gas/emissions system fault you are aware of.

Time to change engine wiring + trottle body, had same shit and was annoying :-(

It ended up being the drive by wire throttle body. a year later I had similar problems and it ended up being the engine wiring harness.....
